NEAC Announces 2013 Men's Volleyball Regular Season All-Conference Selections and Individual Award Winners

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2013 Men’s Volleyball All-Conference selections, with first and second team honors being awarded regardless of position to a total of 14 student-athletes, as selected by the conference coaches.

The NEAC has also announced its men’s volleyball individual award winners.  Lancaster Bible College junior Alex Bahn (Seven Valleys, Pa.) was selected as the NEAC Player of the Year after an outstanding all-around season for the Chargers.  A three-time NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week selection, Bahn tallied 637 assists (6.07 a/set), 169 digs (1.61 d/set), 141 kills (1.34 k/set) and 39 total blocks through 29 matches during the regular season.  The 6-foot setter also registered a conference-best 52 serve aces on the year, while his assist total was the third-most in the NEAC.   

Bahn’s teammate, Lancaster Bible College junior Andy Nguyen (Lancaster, Pa.), was chosen as the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year after a fantastic season serving as the Chargers’ libero.  Nguyen registered 205 digs on the year, which led the team and were second-most in the NEAC, while his 1.95 digs per set ranked fifth across the conference.  He also chipped in offensively, dishing out 12 assists and smashing four kills with no errors on 11 attempts.

NEAC Rookie of the Year honors went to SUNY Institute of Technology freshman Alan Davids (Hilton, N.Y.).  The 6-foot-4 middle hitter put together a terrific season, leading the conference with a .344 hitting percentage while being second in kills (195), kills per set (2.19), points (258.5) and points per set (2.9).  He also ranked in the top eight in multiple statistical categories across the conference, including solo blocks (14 – 6th), assisted blocks (47 – 5th), total blocks (61 – 5th), blocks per set (0.69 – 6th), serve aces (26 – 7th) and serve aces per set (0.29 – 8th).  Davids’ tremendous play throughout the season earned him three NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week awards and an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week selection.

Lancaster Bible College head coach Evelyn Long was selected as the NEAC Coach of the Year by her peers.  Long led the Chargers to the NEAC regular season championship after finishing a perfect 5-0 in conference play, while also guiding her squad to a 15-14 overall record on the year.  After finishing atop the conference standings, Lancaster Bible College also earned the right to host the NEAC Championship Tournament, which will be held this Saturday, April 13.
