Penn State Berks Captures Fourth Straight NEAC Women’s Soccer Championship after Double-Overtime Thriller
READING, Pa. – The Penn State Berks Nittany Lions captured their fourth straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women's Soccer Championship after winning 1-0 in double overtime over Lancaster Bible College Sunday.
The Nittany Lions will now earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. They will find out who their first-round opponent is during the NCAA's live selection show, which can be viewed on the NCAA website Monday at 1:30 p.m. here.
Following two scoreless halves and an overtime period, Berks senior Brennan Moyer (Wyomissing, Pa.) would become the hero after she chipped a shot over the keeper's head and just under the crossbar with 32 seconds left in double overtime to clinch the title for the Nittany Lions. A full box score can be found here.
Moyer, the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year, would go on to be named the NEAC Tournament MVP after her clinching score, as she also added an assist in Berks' semifinal round victory Saturday while helping the Nittany Lions post shutouts in both playoff wins.
The Nittany Lions are now 17-3-1 overall heading into the big dance, while Lancaster Bible closed the season 15-6 as both teams provided an instant classic.
