NEAC Releases 2018 Softball All-Conference Team and Individual Awards

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2018 Softball All-Conference Team with 33 student-athletes receiving first, second and third team honors. The league office also announced the winners of four annual awards that are selected by the conference coaches.

Another outstanding season has led to Penn State Berks’ Jessica Rozick (Bensalem, Pa.) taking home multiple honors as the NEAC Player and Pitcher of the Year. The Nittany Lions’ junior right-hander leads the league in wins (11), shutouts (6), strikeouts (133), strikeouts per game (9.16) and ERA (1.31). Rozick begins postseason play with an 11-5 record in 101 2/3 innings of work which includes an 8-0 conference record. In NEAC contests, she has allowed just one earned run for a minuscule 0.14 ERA with seven complete games and 87 strikeouts in 49 innings. Rozick has dominated NEAC hitters in 2018 with her conference opponents hitting just .120 when she is in the circle. She has had five games with double-digit strikeouts, including a school-record 16 strikeouts against Penn State Abington.

Rozick was the NEAC’s best pitcher throughout the month of April, earning Pitcher of the Week honors in three consecutive weeks. This year’s awards add to an already impressive resume for Rozick as she was named NEAC South Division Pitcher of the Year in each of her previous two seasons. In addition to her pitching efforts, Rozick closed out the regular season batting .313 with one double, one triple, nine runs scores and three RBIs.

Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) from Gallaudet University has been named NEAC Rookie of the Year after an impressive first season on the field. The Bison’s freshman shortstop leads the NEAC in runs (34), hits (45), triples (8) and total bases (82). Neild ranks second in the league with a .455 batting average, .509 on-base percentage, .828 slugging percentage and 29 RBIs. She has also been a threat on the base paths, ranking fifth among NEAC players with 14 stolen bases. Neild finished her season with 17 multi-hit games and 12 multi-run games. In the field, Neild has a .925 fielding percentage and ranks first in the NEAC after turning eight double plays. In addition to earning NEAC Player of the Week honors twice this season, Neild is one of two freshmen to receive All-Conference First Team honors.

Keuka College’s Jamie Burke has been selected as the NEAC Coach of the Year for the seventh time in her career. In her 13th season with the Wolves, Burke led her team to a 12-0 record in the North Division and a 14-2 conference record. With six all-conference selections, the Wolves lead the NEAC in team batting average (.332), on-base percentage (.404) and ranks second in ERA (3.10). Burke and the Wolves are entering the postseason on a school-record 16-game winning streak and will be in search of the program’s eighth conference title.
