United East Athletes of the Week | 10-31-22

LATHAM, N.Y. - it is week nine of your United East Athletes of the Week and the final weekly honor roll for the fall seasons. Six players earned recognition for their performances through the final week of the regular season, including student-athletes from five different member institutions.

On the volleyball court, SUNY Morrisville’s Brianna Gates was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week while St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Meghan Stevens earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

On the pitch, Cassie Johnson from Penn College was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Payton DeGraw from Gallaudet University took home Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Rounding out the honor roll from men’s soccer was Kedric Yoder (Lancaster Bible College) and Jair Parra (MOR) who were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Cassie Johnson

Penn College  |  Sophomore  |  Midfield

Johnson helped the Wildcats finish the regular season on a high note as her efforts contributed to a pair of victories. In the midweek tilt, the sophomore scored three times while assisting on two more as Penn College routed Marywood University, 6-1. She then added another goal and two more assists in the regular season finale victory over Well College.
 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Payton DeGraw

Gallaudet University |  Senior  |  Goalkeeper

DeGraw concluded her collegiate career with a pair of solid outings in net for the Bison. The senior piled up 12 total saves including seven first-half stops as Gallaudet narrowly fell to Trinity (Washington DC).
 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Jair Parra

SUNY Morrisville  |  Junior  |  Defense

Parra helped anchor a defense that proved crucial in two Mustang victories to end the season. In the weekend tilt against Penn State Abington, Parra helped keep the Nittany Lions off the scoresheet while heading in a goal on the attack for Morrisville. Earlier in the week, Parra contributed to another great defensive effort as his squad shut out SUNY Poly, 1-0.
 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Kedric Yoder

Lancaster Bible College  |  Graduate Student  |  Forward

In his final regular season contest for the Chargers, Yoder made program history as his squad defeated Penn State Altoona, 8-0, on Thursday night. The graduate student assisted on three goals for Lancaster Bible, giving him a record-breaking 39 assists in his career. 
 

Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

Brianna Gates

SUNY Morrisville  |  Junior  |  Outside

Gates finished out the regular season on fire as her offense helped the Mustangs to two wins all while keeping their conference record unblemished. The junior hit an unprecedented .565 across six sets, totaling 31 kills in all. In the three-set victory over Penn State Abington, Gates tallied a week-high 21 kills. She also contributed 18 digs and an ace.
 

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Meghan Stevens

St. Mary’s College of Maryland  |  Junior  |  Outside

Stevens did a little of everything for the Seahawks in their final week of the regular season. The junior tallied 39 digs across 10 sets, registering only a single reception error. Stevens racked up a week-high 18 in the win over Abington, using 10 kills to achieve her third double-double of the season. The outside also added 26 kills and four assists to the Seahawk efforts.
