LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has released the Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Teams for the 2022 season. All-Conference consists of a First and Second Team made up of 13 student-athletes (3 Attack, 3 Midfielders, 3 Defense, 1 Goalie, 1 Faceoff Specialist, 1 Long Stick Midfielder, 1 Short Stick Midfielder).
The conference has also doled out its major awards, including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year. Those were awarded to the following:
Offensive Player of the Year - Jude Brown (St. Mary's College of Maryland)
Defensive Player of the Year - Dylan LaPlace (SUNY Morrisville)
Rookie of the Year - Aiden Doyle (St. Mary's College of Maryland)
Coach of the Year - Jason Longo (SUNY Morrisville)
Brown dominated in his senior campaign, helping his Seahawks achieve a record of 12-4 overall (4-1 United East). The attackman registered multiple points in every game this season, totaling a league-high 98. Brown played an even role of goal scorer and distributor as he notched 49 goals and 49 assists, both of which topped the United East. His 6.47 points-per-game this year was ranked fifth among all Division III players. To add to his impressive stat sheet, the Bel Air, Md. native also racked up 38 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers. One of his top outings came early on in a win over Marymount as Brown piled up 10 points on six goals and four helpers.
LaPlace secured his second-straight Defensive Player of the Year award as his efforts in net helped the Mustangs secure the Regular Season Title with a record of 6-0. The Chester, Conn. native was a wall, topping the conference in save percentage (58.55) and goals-against average (7.17). The latter of those two stats is also currently ranked eighth in Division III. LaPlace piled up nine wins on the season, none more important than a 13 save win over conference-foe St. Mary’s College. The sophomore scooped up 20 groundballs on the year as well.
Doyle looked far from a rookie in his first year for the Seahawks, aiding in St. Mary’s electric offense. The first year ranked second in the conference in goals scored, tallyin 42 on the year. Doyle recorded a point in 14 of the squad’s 16 contests this year and multiple points in 13 of those. He finished the regular season with 58, which ranked fourth in the United East. Perhaps his top performance came in a 14-13 win over Randolph-Macon as he notched six goals including the game winner.
Coach Jason Longo continued his legacy as a top coach as he helped his squad to a 10-2 record this season, including a perfect 6-0 in conference action. Longo prides himself on his squad’s defensive play as their 7.17 goals-allowed per game ranks fifth in the nation. That was helped by the man-down special teams which was successful 83.3% of the time (9th in the country). This year, Longo helped guide eight Mustangs to All-Conference honors including the Defensive Player of the Year.
