Buzzer Beaters, OT winners, and PK's highlight Tuesday's action in Women's Soccer Tournament

LATHAM, N.Y. - The divisional finals are set after Tuesday’s Semifinal Round games in the 2023 United East Women’s Soccer Championships.

Volt Division - #2 Penn State Harrisburg def. #3 Penn College, 1-0 - Box Score

Penn State Harrisburg advanced to Thursday’s Volt Division final with a 1-0 win over Penn College on Tuesday evening.  The lone goal came from Abigail Frew in the 61st minute.  Nicole Lichtinger had 6 saves in net for Penn College as the Lions outshot the Wildcats 10-4 (8-3 SOG).  The Volt Division final against Penn State Berks is a rematch of the final night of the regular season where Berks defeated Harrisburg to claim the #1 seed and home field advantage throughout the postseason.

Volt Division - #1 Penn State Berks def. #5 St. Mary’s College of Maryland, 1-0 - Box Score

Adriana Lepera got a goal from a free kick into the box with 1 second left as #1 seeded Penn State Berks escaped with a 1-0 win over St. Mary’s (MD) on Tuesday evening.  Berks outshot the Seahawks 9-3 (4-1 SOG) in the defensive struggle.  Penn State Berks moves on to a matchup with #2 Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday evening looking to defend the 2-1 victory on the final day of the regular season.

Skye Division - #3 Cairn University def. #2 Wilson College, 2-2 (6-5 PK) - Box Score

Cairn University advanced to Thursday’s Skye Division Finals after a 6-5 penalty kick victory over Wilson College on Tuesday afternoon in Chambersburg.  Grace Miller opened the scoring for the Highlanders in the 10th minute but Katie Riley equalized for Wilson just four minutes later as the game settled into a 1-1 tie for the remainder of the first half.  Skylar Molar put the Phoenix ahead 2-1 in the 61st minute but Julia Bruestle equalized 19 seconds later to tie everything up at 2-2.  Isabelle Portis saved a penalty kick in the 85th minute for the Highlanders to send the game to OT. After two OT periods, the game went to penalty kicks where, after 8 rounds, Cairn ended up prevailing 6-5.  The Highlanders move onto the Skye Division Finals on Thursday night at Bryn Athyn College.

Skye Division - #1 Bryn Athyn College def. #5 Cedar Crest College, 1-0 (2 OT)  - Box Score

Bryn Athyn College escaped with a 1-0 OT win over #5 Cedar Crest on Tuesday evening.  Ally Paul had a goal 30 seconds into the first overtime period off of a free kick assist from Ciara McFeely for the Lions as they advance to Thursday evening’s Skye Division Championship match against #3 seed Cairn University.  The Lions outshot the Falcons 19-1 but only four were on goal as Cedar Crest goalkeeper Bella Bozen and the Falcons defense kept the league leaders at bay for 90+ minutes.
