Top Seeds Claim Women's Soccer Divisional Titles

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East crowned its top seeds as Divisional Champions Thursday evening as No. 1 Penn State Berks defeated Penn State Harrisburg in penalty kicks to earn the Volt Division title while top-seeded Bryn Athyn took care of business against No. 3 Cairn to claim the Skye Division title.

These two sides will now square off on at 1 p.m. on Sunday for a chance to be named United East Champions and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. That game will take place at Penn State Berks.

All of the scoring action took place within a minute of one another as the teams remained in a scoreless draw until the 81st minute. Penn State Berks’ Sara Hathaway broke the tie as she netted a corner kick sent in by Diana Pon. Just 40 seconds later though, Harrisburg knotted things up at 1-1 as Serenity Hill tucked away a goal. The score remained 1-1 throughout the rest of regular time as well as the two extra periods. Carly Fox had the deciding kick for Berks, punching their ticket to the Crossover Championship.

Bryn Athyn opened the scoring in the second half as a loose ball found the foot of Kayla Smith deep in the box and the forward sent it home. The Lions continued to apply pressure and were eventually able to double their lead as Kira Bradley ripped a shot into the top right corner. Chloe Munyon pitched the shutout in goal for Bryn Athyn, stopping all four shots fired on net.
