United East Unveils 2023 Women's Soccer - Volt Division - All-Conference Teams and Major Award Winners

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The United East conference has announced its 2023 Women’s Soccer All-Conference Teams for the Volt Division.  The All-Conference Teams are made up of 12 student-athletes, each with three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalkeeper, and two at-large honorees.  Four major awards have been handed out including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

All seven women’s soccer playing institutions in the Volt Division are represented in the All-Conference awardees.  Penn State Berks leads the way with 6 members of the All-Conference team, including three Major Award winners, followed by Penn State Harrisburg and Penn College with 5 honorees each, respectively.

Penn State Berks midfielder Diana Pon (So. / Miramar, Fl.) was named the 2023 United East Player of the Year - Volt Division after leading the Nittany Lions to a Volt Division regular season championship and top seed in the United East Championship Tournament.  The sophomore tallied 9 goals on the year, 8 in conference, and accumulated 25 total points, 17 in conference.  Pon had a hat trick twice during the season and had a 7-point game against Gallaudet on September 30.  In 2022, Pon was the United East Rookie of the Year, a United East First-Team, and USC All-Region Third Team honoree.
 
Penn State Berks goalkeeper Sophia Gonzalez (So / Ephrata, Pa.) was named the 2023 United East Defensive Player of the Year - Volt Division after leading the Nittany Lions to a Volt Division regular season title and the top seed in the United East Championship Tournament.  The sophomore started all 16 regular season games and held down the backline for a Berks team that only allowed 2 goals in Volt Division play.  The athletic shot stopper had 75 saves on the season; good for 3rd in the United East.  Gonzalez was named United East Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division three separate times this season.
 
Isabella Eufemia (FY / Rosedale, Md.) had a strong campaign where the first-year netted 9 goals, including 4 game-winners, en route to being named the 2023 United East Rookie of the Year - Volt Division. Eufemia started all 18 matches this season as the Chargers finished with a 9-7-2 overall record (3-2-1 United East) and a playoff berth in 2023.  Eufemia’s finished her rookie season Top 10 in the United East with 25 total points (8th) and 9 goals (9th). 
 
Adrian Munteanu has been voted United East Coach of the Year - Volt Division after guiding the Penn State Berks team to a regular season title, a 4-1-1 Volt Division record, and a 8-8-1 regular season record.   Berks outscored their conference opponents 22-2 on the season, and, across the whole season, held their opponents to a 1.38 Goals Against Average.  Additionally, six members of the team were awarded All-Conference honors as well as both the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
