Four Teams Advance in 2024 United East Women's Soccer First Round Games

LATHAM, N.Y. - The quarter finals are set after Tuesday’s First Round games in the 2024 United East Women’s Soccer Championships.
 

#5 Penn State Abington def. #12 Saint Elizabeth University, 13-0 - Box Score
Penn State Abington scored twice in the first five minutes with goals from Nayeska Ravelo at 2:17 and Madison McDowell at 5:01 as the Nittany Lions ran away with the First-Round matchup to a final score of 13-0.   Madison McDowell finished with five goals and three assists.  Nayeska Ravelo and Kaitlyn Frank each scored two goals with Ravelo contributing an assist as well.  Abington outshot Saint Elizabeth 35-4 with a 22-0 advantage in shots on goal.  Emily Fearon and Leah Tate combined a total of 9 saves for the Eagles.

#6 Lancaster Bible College def. #11 Rosemont College, 5-0 - Box Score
Lancaster Bible used an early goal to build momentum and eventually ran away from visiting Rosemont College on Tuesday evening in Lancaster, Pa.  Zoe Beers scored at the 10:03 mark of the first half with an assist from Isabella Eufemia to push the hosts ahead early.  Though a barrage of shots came, Rosemont held on until two goals right before halftime (41:11 Isabella Eufemia; assist, Leah Perreault & 42:57 Zoe Beers; assist, Janae Bergey) moved the score to 3-0 into the break.  Lancaster added 2 more goals and saw the game out from there.  For Lancaster Bible, Zoe Beers and Janae Bergey each had 2 goals and an assist while Isabella Eufemia tallied a goal and an assist.  Rosemont was led by Cassidy’s Smith’s 4 shots (1 on goal) while Jaylin Davis added a shot on goal.

#7 Wilson College def. #10 Cedar Crest College, 1-0 (2OT) - Box Score
Annie Smith ran onto a long ball and slotted it home to give the host Wilson Phoenix a 1-0 win over Cedar Crest College in double overtime.  With five minutes left until penalty kicks, Smith ran onto a ball over the top, beat a defender, and put the Phoenix into the next round to break the tie late in the afternoon.  Wilson took 26 shots (15 on goal) while Cedar Crest had 10 shots (6 on goal).  Bella Bozen stood tall in net for the Falcons, making 14 saves over 106 minutes.

#9 Bryn Athyn College def. #8 Cairn University, 2-0 - Box Score
In the final game of the night, Bryn Athyn went on the road to Cairn and picked up a hard-fought 2-0 victory.  Kira Bradley had a brace, scoring in the 28th minute off of a Vanessa Squares helper and then in the 82nd minute off of a Ciara McFeely assist to secure the road win.  Shots were 17-14 in favor of Bryn Athyn with the Lions holding an 8-3 edge in corner kicks as well.  Cairn was led by Elizabeth Cobb’s 5 saves and shots on goal from Ella Quince, Paige Noble, and Juliana Condurso.

 

Quarter final matches will take place on Saturday afternoon with the top four seeds, who all earned first round byes, hosting on campus.  Number 1 seed Penn State Harrisburg hosts No.9 Bryn Athyn College and No. 2 seed Penn College hosts No. 7 Wilson College.  Number 3 seed St. Mary’s College of Maryland welcomes No. 6 Lancaster Bible College while No. 4 Penn State Berks has a matchup with No. 5 Penn State Abington.
