Penn State Harrisburg and St. Mary's College (Md.) Conclude Their Seasons in the First Round of the NCAA Championship

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East had two teams compete in the 2024 NCAA Championship on Saturday marking the first time the league has had two bids enter the Big Dance. Both teams fell short in their contests as Penn State Harrisburg fell, 2-1, to William Smith College and St. Mary's College of Maryland fell, 1-0, to Vassar College.

Harrisburg found itself in an early hole as the Herons capitalized on a chance in the seventh minute. They'd hold that lead going into the half. Harrisburg was able to secure the equalizer in the second half though, courtesy of Julia Hughes in the 65th minute. The draw lasted only moments though as six minutes later, William Smith scored what would be the eventual game-winning score.

Sydney Mulka played the entire game between the pipes, collecting four saves in the loss.

Vassar def. St. Mary's College, 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

The match remained scoreless through the first half, with Vassar  outshooting St. Mary's 9-2. St. Mary's goalkeeper Kyleigh Bland was instrumental in keeping the game level, making three saves as the defense held strong.

Vassar broke the deadlock early in the second half, scoring at 46:58. Despite the Seahawks' best efforts to respond, Vassar continued to apply pressure, outshooting St. Mary's 8-2 in the second half. Bland made an additional four saves, totaling seven for the match, but St. Mary's was unable to find an equalizer, and Vassar held on to secure the win.
