St. Mary's College and Keystone to Meet in Field Hockey Final

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East Field Hockey Championship matchup is set after St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Keystone College each won their semifinal matchups on Saturday afternoon.  The two sides will meet on Saturday, November 9 at St. Mary’s (Md.) to crown the United East Champion.

St. Mary’s College (Md.) defeated visiting Penn State Harrisburg, 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in the United East Semifinals.  Brenna Ziegler opened the scoring with her 11th goal of the season at the 18:23 mark in the 2nd quarter and Josie Shermeyer added the second goal just after halftime as the Seahawks advanced to next week’s finals.  St. Mary’s (Md.) outshot the visiting Lions 27-2 (18-1 on goal) while holding a 10-2 advantage in corners. 

Harrisburg’s Macenzie Mulholland stood tall in goal making 16 saves on 18 shots while Bailey Rucker had the only shot on goal for the Lions.

#3 Keystone College def. #2 Wilson College, 5-3 - Box Score
Belen Rodriguez’s two goals, one at the end of the 3rd quarter, and one at the beginning of the 4th quarter, broke a 2-2 tie and were the difference in Saturday’s afternoon’s semifinal as Keystone went on the road to earn a 5-3 victory over the hosts, Wilson College.  Danica Frushour opened the scoring as Wilson took a 1-0 lead.  However, Breanna Landers equalized at the 1st quarter buzzer to have the opening period all square. It was 2-2 into halftime on Vicky Mainero and Paige Ney’s goals for Keystone and Wilson, respectively, before Rodriguez netted two in the second half.  Hannah Aker got Wilson back to a goal down with 5 minutes to go, but Mainero earned her second goal with just under three minutes remaining in the match. 

Keystone outshot the Phoenix 18-14, 11-9 on goal, while each netminder (Hannah Osbahr for Keystone and Erin Sullivan for Wilson) made six saves in the afternoon.
