LATHAM, N.Y. - The top two seeds in the 2024 United East Men’s Volleyball Championship took care of business Tuesday evening in the Semifinal Rounds of the tournament. Top-seeded Lancaster Bible College defeated No. 4 Saint Elizabeth University 3-0 while No. 2 Cairn University upended No. 3 Wilson College by the same set score.
The Chargers will host the Highlanders for a shot at the first ever United East Men’s Volleyball title on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa. First serve for that match will come at 2 p.m.
No. 1 Lancaster Bible def. No. 4 Saint Elizabeth, 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-19)
The Chargers (14-13) had no problem through the first two stanzas, holding the Eagles to single digit points. Saint Elizabeth took their shot at a comeback in the third set as the score evened out a bit but it wasn’t enough. Hunter Davis had a massive game for Lancaster Bible, registering a team-high nine kills while hitting at a clip of .727. Christian Herr was also instrumental in the victory, dishing out 29 assists while also producing six service aces.
Saint Elizabeth was led by Kennedy Ibizim, who tallied five kills on the night. The Eagles close out their season with a record of 8-19.
No. 2 Cairn def. No. 3 Wilson, 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-19)
Each of the sets saw the Highlanders (7-13) pull out some late runs to secure the straight-stanza victory. Will Nase led the Cairn squad with 11 kills while Sam Poirier was right behind him with nine. Josh Adler was all over the court, ending the match with a team-leading 33 assists.
Ryan Koontz (11) and Jacob McCoy were the offensive leaders for the Phoenix, accounting for 20 of the team’s 30 kills. Vincent Natale played the role of distributor as he ended with 26 assists. The Wilson season comes to an end with a record of 8-15.
