Penn College Captures United East Volt Division Softball Championship

LATHAM, N.Y. - Penn College finished off a perfect weekend (3-0) of play with a Volt Division Championship. 

For day two of the tournament in the Volt Division, No. 1 seed Penn State Harrisburg faced off against No. 4 seed Penn State Abington in a game one rematch. Harrisburg outlasted Abginton as they moved on to the championship round of play against Penn College. The Wildcats defeated Harrisburg for the second time in two days to win the divisional title. Penn College will host the winner of the Skye Divisional championship next weekend in a best-of-three series.

Due to weather conditions, day two of tournament play in the Skye Division was postponed. They will resume play Monday afternoon with game five slated for a 12 pm start. The winner of the Skye Division tournament will travel to face off with the Volt Divisional winner, Penn College.

VOLT DIVISION

GAME 5: #1 Penn State Harrisburg def. #4 Penn State Abington, 7-6 (9 inn.)

Penn State Abington got off to a hot start putting up three runs in the second inning, giving them a 3-0 edge over the home team. Berks added on another run in the fifth inning before Harrisburg tied it with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth frame. Play remained tied through the seventh before Harrisburg captured one last run in the ninth to advance them.

Six batters for Harrisburg recorded a hit with Madelyn Lehigh remaining hot going 4-2 at the plate. Aspen Walker and Elina Gates were responsible for six of Harrisburg's runs recording two RBIs and one run each. Carrisa Yeager kept Harrisburg's playoff hopes alive with an RBI of her own in the bottom of the seventh inning notting the match at 6-6. Walker sealed the deal for Harrisburg with an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth. 

GAME 6: #2 Penn College def. #1 Penn State Harrisburg, 7-0

The early lead for Penn College served as more than enough in a 7-0 win against the No. 1 seed, Harrisburg. The Wildcats notched four runs in the first inning and followed that up with an additional three runs in the two of the second frame. Lexi Snyder started the game with a single to center field bringing in two runners. Jesse Brumbaugh added a double in the same frame giving her two RBIs for a 4-0 lead against the home team. In the second inning, Margaret Magene and Grace Lorson tacked on two more RBIs for the Wildcats. The Wildcats scoring came to a halt after being walked into a comfortable 7-0 lead.

For Penn College, five batters recorded at least one hit. Madison Shaffer recorded three hits while Brumbaugh and Weaver both added two hits of their own. Additionally, Weaver picked up her 15th win in a stellar performance on the mound, striking out four and only giving up two hits
