Softball 5/6/2024 8:30:00 PM Wilson College Captures United East Skye Division Softball Championship LATHAM, N.Y. - The 2024 United East Softball Championship concluded on Monday afternoon with the conclusion of the Skye Division finals on the campus of Wilson College. After fighting rain throughout the weekend, the conclusion of Game 5 and the final two games were able to be completed on Monday afternoon. Wilson was able to win three games on the day to take home the Skye Division title, avenging the earlier loss to Rosemont with victories in Game 6 and 7. Skye Division - Game 5: #1 Wilson College def. #3 Notre Dame of Maryland - 9-1 (5 inn.) Game 6: #1 Wilson College def. #2 Rosemont College - 8-5 Game 7: #1 Wilson College def. #2 Rosemont College - 12-4 Game 5 was halted on Saturday afternoon for rain with Wilson College holding a 5-0 lead in the first inning over Notre Dame of Maryland. Wilson racked up 11 hits with five individuals having multi-hit games and not striking out once as the Phoenix rolled to a run-rule shortened 9-1 win. In the circle, Rylee Piper scattered 5 hits en route to picking up her 16th win of the season. After a quick break, Wilson came back to face Rosemont in an elimination Game 6 with the Phoenix needing to defeat the Ravens twice to avoid elimination after Rosemont defeated Wilson on Friday evening. Taylor Barker hit a home run in the 3rd inning and another home run in the 6th inning as Wilson ran out to a 7-2 lead after 6 innings and held on for an 8-5 victory. Barker finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and Rylee Piper threw a complete game to pick up her 17th win of the season. For Rosemont, Olivia Hamme and Kendyll Strohl went 3-for-4 at the plate. To end the day, a winner take all Game 7 was needed as Rosemont and Wilson faced off again 20 minutes after the conclusion of Game 6. Rosemont struck early in the bottom of the 1st inning with an Analisa Yoder RBI single, but Wilson scored 6 runs in the 3rd inning and never looked back, cruising to a 12-4 victory in the decisive Game 7. Haley Privett went 4-for-4 for Wilson with 4 RBI, a double and a walk to lead the Phoenix at the plate while Riley Piper earned her third win of the day, and 18th on the season, after entering the circle in the 4th inning. Wilson, as the Skye Division champion, will now move on to face the Volt Division champion, Penn College, this weekend in a best-of-3 series. The winner of the best-of-3 will earn the Automatic Qualifier to the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.
