United East Men's Volleyball to Begin 2025 Season

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East is set to begin the 2025 men's volleyball season this weekend.  Nine programs will compete for six postseason berths in the 2025 United East Men's Volleyball Championships that begin on Saturday, April 5.

Last season, Lancaster Bible College took home the first United East men's volleyball championship as the Chargers were the first United East program to compete in the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Tournament.

This season, Gallaudet University begins varsity play as the Bison return to the court after an 11-year hiatus from participating in men's volleyball.  Additionally, Neumann University joins the league as an associate, joining fellow Atlantic East Conference member Pratt Institute to bring the United East's sport sponsorship up to nine programs in 2025.

All programs will play each other once with the top-six teams earning an entry to the United East Championship in April.

Any ties will be broken using the United East Tiebreaking Procedures and, once the six seeds are determined, the tournament will commence as a single-elimination tournament.  Tiebreakers and a tournament outline can be found at the 2025 United East Men's Volleyball Championship homepage.

Read below for a preview of all nine teams.

  • Fresh off claiming the United East’s first men’s volleyball championship in 2024, Lancaster Bible is led by an experienced core in Jade Brubaker’s 12th season as head coach. Junior Jake Rotelle returns after being named Offensive Player of the Year in 2024 where he tallied 172 kills and 64 aces.  Senior Dawson Forney hit .279 on the season with 223 kills en route to a First Team All-Conference award.  Sophomore Kevin Bryant earned a Second Team honor after 67 kills, 33 blocks and a .262 hitting percentage while classmate Nicholas Marion earned a Second Team award as well.

The Chargers open the season on Friday, January 10th at Trine University facing the hosts, Mount St. Joseph, and St. John Fisher during the opening weekend.  Key non-conference matchups include Misericordia (January 15), Southern Virginia (February 1 and March 1), Messiah (February 4), Rutgers-Newark (February 28), and Marymount (March 25).  United East play opens on February 18th with a trip to Cairn University.

Coach's Outlook: “Very excited about this group of guys for 2025! We return a talented group who are hardworking and hungry. We brought in some new key pieces and are looking forward to playing some great volleyball this season!” - Head Coach Jade Brubaker

  • Beginning his second season on the bench for Cairn men’s volleyball, head coach Shea Scott has an experienced squad led by three returning All-Conference players looking for another deep run in the postseason.  Junior setter Josh Adler returns after a Second Team All-Conference season in 2024 where he handed out 571 assists and 8.16 assists per set. Classmate Kobe Cash had 178 digs and 2.54 per set at the libero position.  Sophomore outside hitter Sam Porier totaled 165 kills and 18 blocks in his debut season, earning a Second Team All-Conference award in the process.

The Highlanders open the 2025 season on January 30 hosting Arcadia.  Non-conference matchups with Immaculata (February 4), Widener (February 6), and Widener (February 13) occur before United East play begins on February 18 with a rematch of last year’s title game and Lancaster Bible visiting the Mason Activity Center.

    Coach's Outlook:

  • After a postseason appearance in 2024, the Wilson College men’s volleyball team is more experienced and ready to continue success during head coach Aaron Hoke’s fourth season on the bench.  Sophomore libero Camden Sterner earned a Second Team All-Conference award last season where he posted 2.76 digs per set and 243 digs in total.  Classmate Ryan Koontz had 162 kills, and 1.84 per set, from the outside hitter position while junior middle hitter Jacob McCoy hit .280% on the season with 174 kills and averaged 1.98 kills per set.

The Phoenix open the 2025 season on January 17 when King’s College visits Chambersburg and Gannett Memorial Field House.  Key non-conference matchups include the University of Lynchburg and Mount Aloysius College (January 18), Saint Vincent College and Elizabethtown College (January 25), and Penn State Altoona (January 28 and February 26).  United East play begins on March 1 as Wilson visits the University of Valley Forge.

Coach's Outlook: “With only one key loss and new additions to the team, I believe that now that we're older and more experienced, we have a great opportunity to have a lot of success as a group. We placed third last season with a team primarily made up of freshmen and sophomores. Now that most of the group is older and they have some seasons under their belt, we're looking to grow and continue our success and compete at an even better level than we did the previous season.” - Head Coach Aaron Hoke

  • Daniel Crespo begins his second season with Saint Elizabeth men’s volleyball looking to continue their upward trend after last season’s playoff appearance.  Kodi Peters returns for his graduate season after earning a Second Team All-Conference selection last year when he led the team in points (192) and kills (165).  Sophomore Eusebio Veras was third on the team in points (159.5), third in kills (122) and tied for first in blocks from the middle hitter position.  Junior middle blocker Kennedy Ibezim was second on the team in points (186) and kills (143).

The Eagles open the 2025 season at the Rutgers-Newark tri-match on January 19 when they will face the host and Bard College.  Other non-conference matchups include Brooklyn College (January 22), King’s College (January 29), CCNY (February 4), and a tri-match at Widener University on February 15.  United East play begins on March 8 with a trip to Bryn Athyn College.

Coach's Outlook: “We are fairly young but with the experience of last season’s playoff run, we expect to build off that culture” – Head Coach Daniel Crespo

  • Fresh off the best season in program history, head coach Kyle Marino has a deep and experienced squad in his sixth season on the bench looking to make noise in the postseason. Junior outside hitter Toby Harris earned a Second Team All-Conference nod in 2023 and continued his success into last year as he led the conference in aces per set (0.74); a mark that was 5th in all of NCAA Division III. Classmate Clay Confer earned both an offensive and defensive player of the week last season while finishing sixth in league in digs per set (2.28), ninth in hitting percentage (.192), and 13th in points per set (2.49).  Senior Nathan Whisman earned All-Conference awards in 2022 and 2023 on top of the CSAC Rookie of the Year in 2022 and is the all-time leader in kills at UVF while leading the league in hitting percentage last year.

Valley Forge opens the 2025 season on January 24 as they host Penn State Schuylkill.  The Patriots have non-conference matchups with Lehman (January 31), Immaculata (February 11), Eastern University (February 14), and Virginia Wesleyan University (February 15).  United East play begins on February 24 at Cairn University.

Coach's Outlook: “Very optimistic for this season with this great group of guys as we look to continue with the upward trajectory of UVF Men’s Volleyball which has increased in win % every year since beginning as a program in 2021. With a good mix of key returners and solid new players, UVF has a roster of 14 this season. This team has been through a lot of ups and downs already together the past 3-4 years which will help a lot with growth, maturity and team chemistry. Despite any trials or challenges this team has come across in the past, something positive has always come from it. We look to continue to learn, grow, and rise above challenges as they come this 2025 season.

We’ve added some new height (6 ’7” White, 6 '3” Hoover, 6' 4 " Woebkenberg, and 6 '2” Martin/ Testa), to go along with a great group of returners from last season. We have 3 conference stat category leaders returning this year in Nate Whisman (1st in hitting %), Isaiah Reece (1st in total solo blocks, even after coming into the season late), and Toby Harris (1st in aces per game, and 5th in aces in the NCAA). Valley Forge looks to build upon its success which included a positive win % record last year for the first time in program history. UVF is also looking to bounce back with a vengeance after missing playoffs on a tie breaker for 3rd place at 3-3 (going .500 in conference and above .500 overall). With new additions of versatile volleyball players like Lor and Hoover, it gives Valley Forge more depth and possibilities with ball control, defense, setting, and hitting & blocking. Coach Mariano believes that UVF returns arguably the best Outside Hitter duo in the conference in Confer and Harris (both Juniors). While serving was strong last year, Mariano believes serving will be stronger this year from the Patriots. Mariano realizes there is still much to work on for the team still though, as far as skill development. With the valuable addition of former pro player, Coach Amorim to help Coach Mariano guide this group, they look forward to seeing many people leave stronger than when they came in skill-wise and with volleyball IQ. Coach Mariano is deeply thankful to be here with this group and is greatly looking forward to this 2025 season and all that it will entail.” - Head Coach Kyle Mariano

  • Jason Barshinger begins his third season as head coach of Bryn Athyn men’s volleyball with an experienced squad looking to make a jump in 2025.  Sophomore Bryan Choute had a monster debut season as the outside hitter picked up a First Team All-Conference award and finished atop the conference in kills per set (2.98) and points per set (3.66) while finishing third in aces per set (0.55).  Sophomore libero Adan Rodriguez-Sapien finished fifth in NCAA Division III with 3.56 digs per set; a mark that was tops in the league. Senior setter Laban Genzlinger handed out 6.44 assists per set: good enough for fifth in the league.

The Lions open the 2025 season with a non-conference match against Pratt Institute at the Lehman College tri-match and have non-conference matches with Yeshiva (February 2), Old Westbury (February 8), and St. Joseph’s Brooklyn (February 17).  United East play begins on Wednesday, March 5 with a trip to Brooklyn and a matchup at Pratt Institute.

Coach's Outlook: “We are looking to make 2025 another step in the right direction for the program. We've deepened our roster while adding blocking and attacking up front, which were areas we knew we lacked last year. I feel we have the potential to fill the voids we had in 2024 while still enhancing our strengths. We have an experienced setter in Laban Genzlinger (Kempton, PA) with more options now, and incoming freshman setter Doston Dosmotov (Philadelphia, PA) will be a strong asset. Miles Shepard (Wilbraham, MA) is fresh off winning a state championship and adds a strong attack and block for us as a freshman. Julio Mateo (Lanthrop, CA) enters his freshman season looking to make an impact. Ryan Givhan (Elkins Park, PA) returns after a year away and had a great fall to prepare for the upcoming season. I am excited to see how Adan Rodriguez (Newport News, VA) and Bryan Choute (Philadelphia, PA) do in their sophomore years after excellent first seasons at the college level.” - Head Coach Jason Barshinger

  • Head coach Alex Moule begins his second season with Pratt Institute and has an experienced core looking to continue their improvement in the 2025 season.  Senior Jason Raymond returns after a First Team All-Conference season in 2024 where he finished with the third-most points (207.5), third in blocks (39) and averaged 2.0 kills per set.  Junior Max Wang returns after leading the team in Kills (143) and was second in Aces (31) during the 2024 season while classmate Brooks Reid led the team with 432 assists last season.

The Cannoneers open the 2025 season at Sarah Lawrence on Thursday January 23rd and have non-conference matches with Manhattanville (January 29), CCNY (February 6), Regis (February 16), Yeshiva (February 18), and St. Joseph’s Brooklyn (February 27). United East play begins on Wednesday, March 5th as Bryn Athyn comes to Brooklyn and Pratt’s ARC.

Coach's Outlook: “Entering this season, the Pratt Institute men's volleyball team is poised to build on last year's foundation with a strong core of returning players complemented by a talented group of first years. With a focus on implementing our system effectively, the team is eager to elevate our level of play and compete at a higher level. The combination of experience and new energy presents an opportunity for growth, with an emphasis on team chemistry, execution, and pushing our opponents to the very last point.” - Head Coach Alex Moule

  • Neumann University joins the United East for the 2025 season as an affiliate member after playing the last four seasons as an independent team.  The Knights have a history of playing United East schools in the past years as Neumann has faced off against Valley Forge, Saint Elizabeth, Pratt, Cairn, Wilson, and Bryn Athyn in the previous seasons.   Neumann finished the 2024 season with a 14-9 record, including a 7-match winning streak from February 20 - March 14th.

Sophomore Trey Edmonds broke school records in kills per set (3.84) and points per set (4.21) while adding three Atlantic East Player of the Week awards in his debut season. Junior Veryl Burns had 159 kills, 19 service aces, and averaged 2.88 points per set last season.

The Knights open the 2025 season at Hood College on February 1 at a tri-match with the host and Bryn Athyn.  Key non-conference matchups include Elizabethtown College (February 6), Immaculata University (February 7 and March 20), and a tri-match on March 1 with Elizabethtown and the host, King’s College.  United East play begins on March 8 as Pratt Institute comes to The Mirenda Center.

Coach's Outlook: “Having played the last four seasons as an independent team, Neumann looks forward to joining the United East. With a roster of strong returning players and an influx of new talent, Neumann hopes to build on the successes of last season and be in the mix with the great competition in this conference.” - head Coach Joan Braid

  • Gallaudet University will begin playing in the United East this season as the Bison have reinstated their men’s volleyball program as announced in May 2024.  Gallaudet previously played two seasons from 2011-2013 before suspending the program at the end of the 2012-13 academic year. Prior to the 2010’s, Gallaudet had a successful men’s program in the 1970’s where they won four straight Potomac Intercollegiate Conference championships (1974-77).

Gallaudet opens the new chapter of men’s volleyball hosting St. Norbert College from De Pere, Wisconsin on January 22.  A tri-match on February 1 sees Randolph-Macon and Immaculata visiting Washington D.C while the February 15 tri-match has Neumann and Lynchburg on campus.  United East play begins on February 26th with a trip to Phoenixville, Pa. and the University of Valley Forge.

Coach's Outlook: “In our founding year, we are looking to build a sustainable culture for the future. Although we may lack the experience of some other teams, the group that we have assembled looks to be a competitive team in our conference. Striving to make the playoffs in our first year and make a new for ourselves early as a hungry and hard-working team.” - Head Coach Ben Campman
