Top Seeds Advance to Final in Men's Volleyball Championship

LATHAM, N.Y. - The top two seeds will advance to United East Men’s Volleyball Championship Final as the two semifinal matches concluded Wednesday evening. Top-seeded Lancaster Bible College swept No. 4 Neumann College in straight sets while second-seeded Wilson College edged out No. 3 Cairn University, 3-2, in the other match up.

Lancaster Bible will now host Wilson College with a shot at the United East title and the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship on the line. That match will take place on Saturday at 2 PM in Lancaster, Pa.

No. 1 Lancaster Bible College def. No. 4 Neumann University, 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-19) (BOX SCORE)

The Chargers kept their sweep-streak of conference foes alive as they dropped Neumann in straight-sets for the second time this season. The top seed hit an impressive .235 on the evening, led by Carson Hoover who had 12 kills. Kevin Bryant and Jordan Yoder also pitched in as the pair hit nine and eight kills, respectively. Setting up the attack was Tyler Martin, who piled up 32 assists without error. 

Defensively, Hoover also led the squad as he had a team-leading 12 digs to complete the double-double. Nicholas Marion also registered 10 digs from the libero position.

Neumann was led by Trey Edmonds who accumulated nine kills. Noah Banaag facilitated from the setter position with 20 assists.

This one came down to the wire as every set seemed to go back and forth. Satvik Sharma had a phenomenal night distributing the ball as he finished with 49 assists for the Phoenix. Three players he set up finished in double-digit kills including Ryan Koontz who hit a clip of .421 and finished with a team-high 18 kills. Jackson Wolfe and Jacob McCoy also pitched in as they registered 13 and 11 kills, respectively. 

Defensively, Wilson threw up 15 total blocks including six from Wolfe (two solo, four assisted). Demetrius Simmons and McCoy helped out at the net as well as both finished with five blocks. In the back row, Wolfe continued to wow as his 15 digs topped the squad.

Cairn played excellent in the defeat, led by Sam Poirier and Jesse Stuart who both had 17 kills. Kobe Cash led all players on the court in digs as he finished the evening with 19.
