Cairn & Neumann Victorious in Men's Volleyball Championship Opening Round

LATHAM, N.Y. - The Opening Round of the United East Men’s Volleyball Championship came to a close on Saturday evening as a pair of matches were settled. No. 4 Neumann University swept No. 5 Saint Elizabeth University, 3-0, in the early slate while No. 3 Cairn University took down No. 6 University of Valley Forge, 3-1.

Neumann will now take on top-seeded Lancaster Bible in the semifinal match up while Cairn will travel to take on No. 2 Wilson College. Both of those contest will take place at 7 PM on Wednesday.

No. 4 Neumann University def. No. 5 Saint Elizabeth University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-21) - (BOX SCORE)

The Knights took advantage of the home court as they won the contest in straight sets. Trey Edmonds was on fire as he racked up 12 kills while hitting an impressive .500. JP Perdomo also aided in the effort as he collected nine kills while also stacking 11 digs. Noah Banaag was the main distributor as his 33 assists topped all players on the court. Christian DeMarco held down the back row as he dug a team-high 14 balls from the libero position.

Kennedy Ibizim was the primary go-to for the Eagles, registering a team-high 11 kills. Jerry Chablay performed well defensively as his 15 digs topped all players.

No. 3 Cairn University def. No. 6 University of Valley Forge, 3-1 (25-20, 25-27, 25-19, 25-14) - (BOX SCORE)

A close match at the start ended with a runaway final set as the Highlanders punched their ticket to the semifinal round. Sam Poirier and Noah Ruiz Esparza both notched double-digit kills, recording 12 and 10, respectively. Feeding them the ball was Josh Adler who ended the evening with a 30 assist, 10 dig, double-double. Kobe Cash also turned in a solid outing as he dug a game-high 14 balls to go along with eight dimes.

Clay Confer topped all players with a 13-kill outing. Toby Harris finished the match with a double-double, racking up 13 digs and 10 kills.
