United East Athletes of the Week - September 30, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for September 23, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men's Golf and Men's and Women's Tennis.

This week’s selections included contests through Sunday, September 28.  A total of five student-athletes from four different member institutions were recognized for their performances.
 

Women’s Cross Country

Runner of the Week
Seana Dougherty / SO / Lancaster Bible College / Brownstown, Pa. / Homeschool

Dougherty had her best perofrmance of the season as she raced at the Dickinson Lang & Short Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore crossed the finishline of the 6K race with a time of 24:22.5. Her efforts topped all Charger runners and was good enough for 18th in a field of 142 competitors. Dougherty's results also helped LBC to 12th place finish as a team.

This is the first Runner of the Week award of the season for Dougherty and her third in her career (10/22/24, 10/8/24).
 

Men’s Cross Country

Runner of the Week
Sevan Ikeda / FR / Gallaudet University / Fremont, Calif. / California School for the Deaf

Gallaudet University first-year runner Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) posted another Top 10 time as he breezed through the 8K course at WinterPlace Park last Saturday as the Bison participated in the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University. Ikeda finished 16th overall with a time of 26 minutes and 21.80 seconds, which is the eighth fastest in Gallaudet school history, on a humid, wet and overcast afternoon. This was Ikeda's fourth collegiate race and the second on this course. A month ago, Ikeda posted a time of 25:29.20 which is the fourth fastest in program history at the Salisbury University Fall Classic.


This is Ikeda's fourth career United East weekly accolade (9/1/25, 9/15/25, 9/23/25).
 
 
Men’s Golf

Golfer of the Week
Jon Breinich / FR / Lancaster Bible College


Breinich made the best of his one outing on the week as he competed in the Northampton Cup hosted by Albright on Tuesday. The first year marked three birdies on the front nine and added two more on the back, finishing at a 71 (-1) on the day. His score earned him fourth place in a 78 golfer field and helped his squad to a 7th place finish out of 15 competing teams.

This is Breinich's first career United East weekly accolade.


Men’s Tennis

Player of the Week
Dan Trott / FR / Penn State Abington / Stroudsburg, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East


In the team's 2025-26 opener, Trott and the Nittany Lions defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 5-2, in a non-conference match.  Trott teamed up with sophomore Krishna Gurram for a 6-4 victory at first doubles.  In his second singles match, Trott cruised to a straight sets victory by the scores of 6-1, 6-0 over Camden's Julian Pinder.

This is Trott's first career United East weekly accolade.

Women’s Tennis

Player of the Week
Samma Zahran / JR / Penn State Brandywine / Brookhaven, Pa. / Cardinal O'Hara


Samma Zahran won her singles and doubles match to help Brandywine defeat Berks and earn its first win of the fall on Saturday. Zahran won her No. 1 singles match in a sweep, winning 6-0, 6-0 and teamed with Isabella Dolce to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-2. Zahran improved her record to 2-1 in both singles and doubles action this fall.

This is Zahran's first career United East weekly of the year and her third in her career (4/8/25, 9/24/24)
