    PAC Represented on All-Mid-Atlantic Regional Team

    Five PAC student-athletes were named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Regional Team for 2005. ArcadiaScott Wimsey (Jr, B, Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) and Dan McGarry (Fr, F, Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic) were named to the first team, after leading the Scarlet Knights to a PAC title and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Wimsey and McGarry were first team All-PAC honorees. teammates

    Three other PAC student-athletes were named to the third team, led by 2004 PAC Player of the Year Derek Roberts-Dukes of Wesley (Jr, M, Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) who led the Wolverines to the ECAC South Tournament title. Arcadia midfielders Chris Brunetti (So, M, Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic) and Matt Abate (So, M, Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) were also named.

    Former PAC Player in the MLS - United calls up defender Cannon

    Washington, DC -- DC United announced Saturday that defender G.R. Cannon has been added to the roster for their match against the Dallas Burn. Cannon joins the Black-and-Red on loan from the Northern Virginia Royals of the USL Pro Soccer League. Kick-off for the game is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

    "We appreciate the willingness of both GR and the Royals to make this call-up possible in the eleventh hour," said United technical director Dave Kasper. Cannon finished his college career at Wesley College, where he led the Wolverines to a 12-7 record. His 23 points (eight goals, seven assists) ranked eighth all-time on the single season scoring table for Wesley College and earned the defensive midfielder First Team All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference honors. He was also named a Third Team All-American.

    In 2004, Cannon has made 16 appearances (15 starts) for the Royals, logging 1,310 minutes. He tallied the game-winning goal in Northern Virginia's 2-1 defeat of the Chesapeake Dragons on June 30.

    PAC Coaches Select Eastern as Favorite in Men's Soccer
    Aston, PA - Eastern University's men's soccer team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) coaches poll. The defending champion Eagles received seven of nine first-place votes and earned 79 points in the poll to edge out Arcadia University.
    Arcadia, which won the PAC crown in 2001 and 2002, earned one first-place vote and 71 points in the poll, while Wesley College earned the other first-place vote and finished third in the poll, with 59 points.
    Misericordia University finished fourth in the poll with 54 points.

    "We are honored to be selected the pre-season favorite in the PAC," Eastern head coach Mark Wagner said. "The Conference has become considerably stronger the last few years, and we will have to work very hard to defend the Conference championship."

    Cabrini College (46), Alvernia College (38), Gwynedd-Mercy College (28), Neumann College (16) and Marywood University (14) rounded out the voting.
    The 2004 PAC Tournament will kick off with semifinal play on Wednesday, November 2.

    Wesley's Derek Roberts-Dukes, Misericordia's Colin Hynes & Arcadia's Tom Carlin Take Individual Honors as PAC Men's Soccer Team is Named

    Aston, PA- 2004 PAC champion Arcadia placed four student-athletes on the All-PAC first team (seven overall) as the PAC Men's Soccer team was announced on Wednesday. Scarlet Knights mentor Tom Carlin was named PAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in the past five seasons. In five seasons at Arcadia, Carlin is 85-19-5 (.802) with three PAC titles, five PAC Final appearances, three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final 8 in 2002.

    Wesley's Derek Roberts-Dukes (Jr, M, Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was named PAC Player of the Year after leading the Wolverines to their first PAC final and an ECAC playoff bid. Roberts-Dukes tallied 8 goals and an assist for 17 points from the midfield position.

    Misericordia's Colin Hynes (Fr, F, Candor, NY/Candor Central) was named PAC Rookie of the Year after leading the Cougars to a semifinal appearance in the PAC Tournament. He scored nine goals for 18 points on the season.

    The 2004 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Soccer squad's first team, in addition to Arcadia, had three Eastern, two Cabrini, two Wesley and a player from Misericordia honored.

    Sept. 7 - Wesley College's Derek Roberts-Dukes (JR, M, Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) - Dukes had two goals in a 2-1 week and was named to the All-Tournament Team at Swarthmore College.

    Sept. 14 - Neumann College's John Tscherne (Fr, F, West Grove, PA/Avon Grove) - Tscherne had two goals and one assist in a 2-0 week (1-0 PAC) for the Knights.

    Sept. 21 - Arcadia University's Scott Wimsey (Jr, D, Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) - Wimsey scored the game-winning goal and led the defensive unit in a shutout win in a 1-0 PAC week.

    Sept. 27 - Arcadia University's Dan McGarry (Fr, F, Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic) - McGarry scored two goals, including one game-winner, in a 3-0 week.

    Oct. 4- Arcadia University's Chris Brunetti (So, M, Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic) - Brunetti scored three goals as the Scarlet Knights earned a pair of Conference victories.



    Oct. 11 - Eastern University's Kent Metzler (Sr, F, Christiana, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) - Metzler scored three goals and had two assists as the Eagles went 2-0 on the week.

    Oct. 18 - Alvernia College's Ben Hutchinson (Fr, G, Lititz, PA/Warwick) - Hutchinson did not allow a goal in three games this week, as the Crusaders went 2-0-1 on the week. Hutchison set a school record for consecutive shutout minutes during the week. He has not allowed a goal in the last 371:58.

    Oct. 25 - Misericordia University's Colin Hynes (Fr, F, Candor, NY/Candor Central) - Hynes scored two goals and added an assist in the Cougars 3-1 win over Neumann College on Saturday.

    Nov. 1 - Misericordia University's Giovanni Tulino (Sr, M, Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) - Tulino scored two goals and added an assist in the Cougars' 6-0 win over Marywood University on Saturday.

    2004 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament
    Second Round, Saturday, November 13, 2004 @ Salisbury (18-0-3) 1, Arcadia (16-3-4) 1

    Salisbury advances on penalty kicks, 6-5

    Dan Thrailkill's shot past Arcadia's junior goalie Ralph Giangiulio in the seventh round of penalty kicks was the difference as #3-ranked Salisbury tied the Knights 1-1, but advanced on penalty kicks, 6-5, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.

    Salisbury, which extended its school-record unbeaten streak to 21 games, improved to 18-0-3 on the season and will advance to the NCAA Sectionals where the Gulls will face Johns Hopkins next Saturday. Johns Hopkins (17-0-2) tied Elizabethtown 1-1 on Saturday, but advanced with a 5-3 advantage in penalty kicks. The site of the game has yet to be determined.

    Arcadia (16-3-4) and Salisbury tied 4-4 after the first five rounds of penalty kicks. Senior Ylber Mezani, junior Kevin Lee, senior Justin Clark and junior Scott Wimsey were all successful on their attempts for the Knights. Juniors Chris Tracy, J.J. King, Bill Whittington and Reid Klopp each converted kicks for the Sea Gulls.

    The squads then went to sudden death penalty kicks where Arcadia sophomore Mike Filipone and Salisbury senior Markus Hunkeler were both successful. The Knight's Justin Savino had his attempt stopped by SU junior goalie Jason Cranford -pictured - before Thrailkill converted the deciding kick.

    The Sea Gulls took a 1-0 lead 16:51 into the contest when Whittington took a crossing pass from junior Chris Mills and scored from eight yards out.

    Arcadia tied the score with just 3:55 remaining in regulation when freshman Bryan Altland found a loose ball in front of the goal and sliced a shot into the back of the net.

    Salisbury, which is making its third straight and fifth overall NCAA Tournament appearance, outshot Arcadia 16-12, including 3-2 in the two 10-minute overtimes. Cranford recorded six saves in the Salisbury goal, while Giangiulio had seven saves for the Knights.

    First Round- Wednesday, November 10, 2004

    The Arcadia Men's Soccer team defeated Roanoke 1-0 in overtime today in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore Chris Brunetti scored the goal 4:40 into the first extra period. Junior Ralph Giangiulio had nine saves to record the shuout for the 19th-ranked Knights (16-3-3 overall)

    2004 ECAC South Men's Soccer Tournament


    Final Round- Sunday, November 14, 2004
    WESLEY WINS ECAC SOUTH TITLE

    #7 Wesley (14-6-2) 3, @ #4 Swarthmore (12-7-2) 1

    For the second time in the past three years, A PAC team has won the ECAC South Men's Soccer Tournament as Junior forward Evan Myers scored two goals to lead No. 7-seed Wesley College (14-6-2) to a 3-1 victory over host No. 4 seed Swarthmore College (12-7-2) in the Championship game of the ECAC Division III Southern Region Men's Soccer Tournament. Myers was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player. Misericordia won the title in 2002.

    Myers staked the Wolverines to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of play when he headed home a Stuart Trafford free kick. The two squads battled the rest of the half but could not score as Wesley, who held an 8-2 advantage on shots, took the 1-0 lead into the break.

    Myers struck again in the 56th minute when he found a hole in the defense and tucked an Andrew Tescione cross just inside the left goal post to give the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage.

    Swarthmore cut the lead to one at 61:45, when freshman forward Brandon Washington hit a blast off the right post and into the left side panel. Wesley answered with an insurance goal when CJ Twombly scored an insurance goal in the 70th minute to make it 3-1. The Wolverines defense then held off a late Garnet charge to secure the victory.

    Wesley edged the Garnet in shots 14-12 and held a 7-4 advantage in corners. Swarthmore senior goalkeeper Nate Shupe recorded four saves, while Edward Hunt recorded two saves for Wesley.

    Semfinal Round- Saturday, November 13, 2004

    Wesley advances on penalty kicks, 5-4

    Wesley scored three goals in the final 17 minutes of regulation to rally from a 3-0 deficit to tie Franklin & Marshall 3-3 in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Southern Region Men's Soccer Championship at Swarthmore College.

    After two scoreless overtime periods, the Wolverines advanced to tomorrow's 1:00 p.m. final against Swarthmore by defeating the Diplomats 5-4 after seven rounds of penalty kicks.

    F&M led 1-0 at the half as freshman forward Brandon Corday scored off a rebound in the 24th minute of play. Senior midfielder Wallace Eisenhauer made it 2-0 when he scored his seventh goal of the season off a rebound in the 48th minute of play and Corday picked up his second of the day just over nine minutes later as the Diplomats opened a 3-0 lead.

    The Wolverines came howling back as junior forward Even Myers got them on the board at 73:50. Junior midfielder Derek Roberts-Dukes cut the lead to one when he chipped a ball over F&M keeper Ed Stelz just 1:50 later. Roberts-Dukes then tied the game on a free kick with 3:03 remaining to send the game into overtime.

    The two squads battled through a scoreless two overtime periods before letting penalty kicks decide the game.

    In penalty kicks, Wesley jumped out to a 3-1 advantage before the Diplomats rallied to tie it on their final two kicks. Myers, Edward Hunt, and Roberts-Dukes each scored goals for Wesley while, Ryan McGonigle, Dan Mills and Alex Sanchez-Sierra scored for F&M. Robbie Polk scored for Wesley and Colin Griggs evened the match for F&M. In the seventh round, Mike McCans put it past Stelz for a 5-4 lead. Corday stepped up to shoot for the Diplomats looking for the tie but Hunt moved to his right stopping the kick, sending the Wolverines to the final.

    Quarterfinal Round- Wednesday, November 10, 2004
    #7 Wesley (13-6-1) 1, @ #2 McDaniel (11-7-3) 0 (OT)

    The #7-seed Wesley defeated the #2-seed McDaniel 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday, in the first round of the ECAC Southern Soccer Championship. 1:34 into overtime, Wolverines' Evan Myers crossed the ball from left to right, finding Trevor Zimmer who floated the ball over Terror keeper Andrew Wu's outstretched arm.

    Prior to that score, Wu recorded five saves on 11 Wesley shots. Freshman keeper, Chris Mattern finished his first collegiate game with three saves and a shut out. McDaniel finishes the season 11-7-3, while Wesley improves to 13-7-1 and advances to the ECAC Semi-Finals this weekend.

    2004 PAC Men's Soccer Tournament

    Final- Saturday, November 6, 2004
    @ (1) Arcadia 2, (3) Wesley 1

    #3 seeded Wesley College (12-7-1) fell to #1 seeded Arcadia University (15-3-3) by a final score of 2-1 in the championship game of the PAC Tournament Saturday afternoon. PAC Championship MVP Andrew Plunkett scored the game winning goal with 12 minutes remaining in the game to lead Arcadia to their third PAC Championship in the past four years.

    Dan McGarry tied the game in the 46th (first minute of the second half) minute after Arcadia. Wesley took an early lead in the first half on a goal from junior Evan Myers. Arcadia outshot Wesley 12 to 2 and had the advantage 4-1 in corner kicks.

    Semifinals- Tuesday, November 2, 2004
    @ (1) Arcadia 2, (4) Eastern 1 (OT)

    Junior Scott Wimsey's goal three minutes into the first overtime lifted Arcadia to a 2-1 win over Eastern in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference semifinals. With the win, the Knights (14-3-3 overall) advanced to the PAC Championship game for the fifth straight season. Sophomore Matt Abate scored the game's first goal on a free kick in the first half but Eastern's Kent Metzler scored with three minutes left in regulation to tie it at one. Wimsey's goal gave Arcadia the win. The Knights will host Wesley in the PAC Championship game on Saturday, 11/6, at 1 p.m. at Erny Field. Wesley defeated Misericordia 1-0 in the semis.

    The Wesley College men's soccer team advanced to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship game with a 1-0 win over Misericordia University, Tuesday at Mangelsdorf Field. Trevor Zimmer headed home the only goal of the game off a throw-in from Gary Palko at 27:43. The Wolverines improved to 12-6-1 and will visit top-seeded Arcadia in Saturday's final. Arcadia defeated Eastern, 2-1 in overtime, Tuesday. Edward Hunt made his only two saves early in the first half to earn the shutout. Hunt stopped Colin Hynes on a two-on-one at 7:13 and snared a blast by Craig Seifring at 25:00. Seifring also hit the left goalpost at 38:45. Wesley had an 8-5 advantage in shots and had a 4-2 edge in corners. Kevin Franco made seven saves for Misericordia. The Cougars end the season at 8-11-1.
