The Arcadia University women’s soccer team made the most of its opportunities to upset top-seeded Misericordia University in the PAC championship game, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Arcadia, the third seed, had just nine shots in the game, but scored on four of its first six shots of the game.

Game MVP Samantha Calhoun and Amanda Pote had two goals each for the Knights while Maria DeGeorge had a pair of assists. Michelle Leone made four saves in goal for the Knights. Allison Martin gave CM a 1-0 lead at 14:41, but Pote and the Knights countered less than a minute later to tie the score at 1-1 at 15:07.

Calhoun gave the Knights a 2-1 lead at 27:33 and Pote made it 3-1 with just three minutes remaining in the first half. CM responded with a Miki Bedics goal at 43:15 to cut the margin to 3-2 at halftime. Calhoun added her second goal just 1:35 into the second half.

#3 Arcadia 3, #2 Eastern 2
St. David's, PA - Third-seeded Eastern University jumped out to two leads on the day, but saw them both slip away as #3 Arcadia University used counter attacks and two restart goals to earn a 3-2 victory Tuesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women's soccer semifinal at Eastern.

Eastern went up in the 12th minute when freshman midfielder Ashley Hackman received a ball in the midfield beat two defenders and ripped a right-footer into the top part of the net. The Eagles held the lead and continued to press, but Arcadia had chances in the counter attack. The Scarlet Knights hit the crossbar twice while down 1-0. Arcadia broke back in the 35th minute when Amanda Pote found Samantha Calhoun facing forward and Calhoun took space and fired a low curling shot that slid right inside the right upright.

Eastern jumped into the lead three minutes later when junior midfielder Krista Wiggins was taken down in the penalty box. Senior back Elaine Wagner stepped up and buried the penalty kick.

The second half saw the Eagles mounting pressure and continuing to take the game forward while Arcadia patiently waited for their countering chances. A stolen ball off a restart gave the Knights a chance to go forward in the 80th minute. Pote received a ball and earned a free kick about 22 yards from goal. Senior midfielder Maria DeGeorge cracked a ball into the top right side of the net to level the game.

Another foul called just a few yards further out in the 83rd minute resulted in another DeGeorge free kick. The senior put her team up for good with another strong right footed shot. Eastern had chances in the final minutes, but could not solve the Scarlet Knight's back line.

#3 Arcadia 2, #6 Marywood 0
Glenside, Pa – In a quarter-final match-up of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, #3 seed Arcadia University defeated #6 Marywood University 2-0.

In a game that saw the Knights dominate in shots 23 - 1, it wasn’t until the 28 minute mark before the first score.  Maria DeGeorge ’06 sent a cross that Pacers goalkeeper Amy Hand ’07 could not handle and Amanda Pote ’09 was there to knock home the loose ball to give Arcadia the 1-0 lead.  The remainder of the first half was full of chances for the Knights but the Pacers defense and Amy Hand kept them off the scoreboard entering halftime.  The second half was a mirror image of the first with Marywood playing defense and Arcadia attacking.  At the 83 minute mark, the Knights added a disputed goal when Amanda Pote sent a cross to Samantha Calhoun ’09 who appeared to be in an off-sides position.  The call was not made and Calhoun sent the ball into an empty net to give the Knights the 2-0 lead and the final margin of victory.

With the win, Arcadia advances to the PAC semi-finals to be played Tuesday at #2 seed Eastern University.  Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.

Haverford 1, Arcadia 1 (Haverford advances on penalty kicks, 3-2)

Haverford, PA - Senior Ashley Emmons drilled the final penalty kick of a best-of-five shootout into the top left corner of the net, allowing host Haverford to advance to the second round of the Division III tournament Wednesday.

Despite a 30-9 advantage in shots during a 1-1, double-overtime tie, the Fords (14-4-2) never led in the contest until sophomore Ryan Hedrick and senior Meej Kim nailed their team's second and third shots in the shootout. Both teams had scored following second-half corner kicks, with Arcadia soph Patty Robb getting the first goal at 63:18, and Haverford frosh Lauren Kibbe answering 2:49 later.

In the tie-breaking session, senior Maria DeGeorge gave Arcadia (13-6-2) an early lead, but frosh Samantha Calhoun's went wide right and junior Rachel Beauchesne hit the left post. Soph Kat Kraemer made the Knights' fourth PK attempt, but Fords rookie keeper Lindsay Festa stonewalled frosh Amanda Pote with a kick-save on Arcadia's final attempt to set up Emmons' decisive blast.

Festa made three saves in the first half and returned in the second overtime following 55 minutes of relief from junior Andrea Fishman. Fishman made one save in her stint in goal, which was followed almost immediately by a brilliant team save on an open net by first-year defender Lizzie Masland. From that point, the Fords held the Knights without a shot over the final 32:17. Arcadia sophomore keeper Michelle Leone made 11 saves in 110 minutes and stopped Haverford senior Elena Kozakewich and Masland in the shootout.

The playoff game was the Fords' debut in the D-III women's soccer tourney, and was the first NCAA home game for Haverford in any sport since a first-round women's lacrosse match on the same Walton Field in 1986.

Haverford will next visit top-seeded Messiah College (18-0-0) in the tournament's second round, Saturday at 1 p.m. in Grantham, Pa.
