WILSON PICKED TO REPEAT IN 2022-23 MEN'S BASKETBALL PRESEASON COACHES' POLL
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Defending champion Wilson College was picked to repeat as conference champions in the 2022-23 Colonial States Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' poll.
The Phoenix, who received 63 points and seven first-place votes, won the 2022 championship with a 77-72 victory over Cairn.
Cairn University was picked second with 56 points and one first-place vote. Saint Elizabeth University came in third with 47 points and one-first place vote.
Bryn Athyn College and Keystone College were tied for fourth with 34 points each, followed by Rosemont College in sixth with 32 points.
Clarks Summit University was picked seventh with 21 points. Valley Forge rounds out the poll in tenth place with 12 points.
Conference play begins on Wednesday, January 4, with four conference matchups. The 2023 CSAC Men’s Basketball Championship is set for Feb. 20-25. The top-five seeds will compete for the conference title and the NCAA Division III Championship automatic qualifier (AQ).

November 14, 2022
Kameron Clark / Gr / Cairn University / Ewing, N.J. / Ewing HS (Offensive)
Clark started in two games for the week, averaging a double-double with 14 points per game and ten rebounds per game in the Highlanders first two games of the season. He had a 22-point, ten rebound performance with two steals to open the season for Cairn.
Daivel Jackson / Jr / Keystone College / Kingston N.Y. / Kingston (Defensive)
In the season opener for the Giants, Jackson notched six defensive rebounds, one block and one steal to lead Keystone in 38 minutes.
November 21, 2022
Jamal Cannady Jr / So / Bryn Athyn College / Baltimore, Md. / Dunbar HS (Offensive)
Cannady Jr. led Bryn Athyn to their first 2-0 start in program history after averaging 36 points per game, which leads all of Division III. Cannady also averaged five rebounds and one assist over two games while shooting 50% from the field and 80% from three-point range.
Rick Godwin Jr / Sr / Wilson College / Largo, Md. / Largo HS (Defensive)
Godwin’s defensive play helped Wilson go 2-0 on the week as he made eight steals on the week that translated into eight points on the opposite end. He also pulled down eight defensive rebounds while notching a double-double in game two for the Phoenix.

Rivera led the Highlanders to a win scoring 21 points on 50% shooting from the field including finishing 12 of 12 on free-throw attempts. Rivera also completed the double-double adding in 10 assists.
Deshaun Cain / Gr / Cairn University / Wilmington, De. / Red Lion Christian Academy (Defensive)
Cain helped Cairn to a win in their only game of the week by controlling the defensive boards 11 rebounds and adding a blocked shot.

Jack Anderson / So / Keystone College / Davie, Fl. / Western (Offensive)
Anderson averaged 35 points per game in a 1-1 week for Keystone, including a career-high 49 points on Tuesday night. Anderson shot 8-14 on three-pointers while playing all 45 minutes in the OT loss against Marywood. His 49-point performance ties the single-game program record at Keystone.

Jackson was all over the court for the Giants pulling down 23 rebounds, 6 blocked shots and 4 steals as the Giants completed a 1-1 week.

Jaryn McCann / Sr / Bryn Athyn College / Auburndale, Fl / Auburndale/ASA Miami (Offensive)
McCann was a consistent performer during the Lions’ three-game week recording two double-doubles (vs. Penn St.-Abington & vs. Great Lakes Christian) while grabbing 37 total rebounds, 9 steals and shooting 53% (17-32) during the busy week for the Lions. McCann averaged 13.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists over the three games.
Darryl Garib / Sr / Wilson College / Dallas, Tx. / Forest Park (Defensive)
Garib recorded two double-doubles to help Wilson go 2-0 on the week with wins over Messiah and Eastern Mennonite. Garib started the week with 14 points and 15 rebounds in the win against Messiah and followed up with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Eastern Mennonite; his fifth double-double of the season. The 25 total rebounds came while playing 78 out of a possible 80 minutes for the Phoenix.

Jack Anderson / So / Keystone College / Davie, Fl. / Western (Offensive)
Anderson averaged 22.5 points per game for Keystone, netting 24 points against Hood. For the week, Anderson shot 36.4 percent from three and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line. At the semester break, Anderson leads the CSAC in minutes played, total points scored (189), free throw percentage (.857) and is second in the CSAC in points per game (21.0) and total three-pointers made (23).

Jackson recorded his eighth straight double-double in the Giants’ games this week vs. Moravian and Hood. Against Moravian on Saturday, Jackson had 16 points and 15 rebounds and followed up the next day against Hood with 19 points and 14 rebounds. At the end of the week, Jackson leads the league in rebounds per game (12.2), ranks second in blocked shots (1.4 per game) and is fifth in the league at 18.8 points per game.

Jackson averaged 20 points per game and 15 rebounds per game, shooting 72 percent from the field (18-25) in two games. He now has 10 straight games with a double-double. Currently, Jackson is top 5 in the CSAC in points per game (19.0), rebounds per game (12.7), and leads the league in blocked shots with 14.
Kameron Clark / Gr / Cairn University / Ewing, N.J. / Ewing HS (Defensive)
Clark had his fourth double-double of the season scoring 11 points to go along with a season-high 16 rebounds in 28 minutes. Currently, Clark is second in the CSAC for rebounds per game (10.2) and total rebounds (112) in 11 games played. This is the sixth time in his career that Clark has been honored as CSAC Player of the Week.

Jamal Cannady Jr / So / Bryn Athyn College / Baltimore, Md. / Dunbar HS (Offensive)
Cannady Jr. averaged 30 points a game, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2.5 steals in the opening week of conference play including 34 points 6 rebounds and 3 steals against Clarks Summit in a 106-90 win. Cannady Jr. is the current CSAC leader in points per game (24.3) and total points (292). Cannady Jr. is currently 6th in NCAA Division III in scoring and is number one in free throws made and attempted in Division III.
D'Angelo Blackmond / Jr / Saint Elizabeth University / (Defensive)
Blackmond averaged 10.7 rebounds while totaling 6 steals and 4 blocks over a 3-game week. Currently averaging a double-double on the season (16.4 points, 10.3 rebounds), Blackmond is the second in the CSAC for rebounds per game (10.3) and total offensive rebounds (38). This is the third CSAC Player of the Week honor for Blackmond who also was named CSAC Rookie of the Year in the 2019-2020 season while competing for Centenary University.

Jackson averaged another double-double for the week (21.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg) as the Giants went 2-0 in CSAC play. Jackson shot 61.5% from the field (16-26) and 91.7% from the foul line (11-12) as he picked up his 11

Laidley totaled 18 rebounds, 14 on the defensive side, two blocks and a steal helping to lead to Giants to a 2-0 week in CSAC play. Laidley had a double-double vs. Saint Elizabeth (19 points, 10 rebounds) and just missed another one vs. Bryn Athyn (21 points, 8 rebounds). This is Laidley’s second CSAC Defensive Player of the Week (February 21, 2022).

Javen Flowers-Smith / FY / Keystone College / Atlanta, Ga. / Pembroke Pines Charter (Offensive)
Flowers-Smith averaged a double-double for the week (27.5 points, 10 assists) with 4 steals per game and 4 rebounds per game while shooting 41% from both the field and behind the three-point arc. This week had his eighth and ninth 20-point scoring games and the win on Wednesday vs. Cairn was Giants’ first win over the Highlanders in five years (January 20, 2018). Currently, Flowers-Smith is 2
nd in the CSAC in points per game (21.8), assists per game (5.5), and steals per game (2.3).

Garib averaged a double-double in leading Wilson to a perfect week. He started off with 13 points and nine rebounds in a win over Valley Forge and followed up with 20 points and 11 rebounds, his eighth double-double of the season. Currently Garib is Top 5 in all CSAC rebounding categories (total offensive, total defensive, per game averages, total rebounds, rebounds per game).

Last week's Defensive Player of the Week had a big week offensively as he averaged 27 points per game in a pair of wins. He opened with a 32-point performance and went 14-for-20 with a pair of 3-pointers against Bryn Athyn. He pulled down 16 rebounds, dished out four assists, and made three steals as well. He followed that up on Saturday with 22 points after going 9-for-15 from the field with five rebounds and two more steals. Currently, Garib is Top 5 in the following Scoring categories – Points per Game, Total Points, Total Field Goals Made.

Clark averaged a double-double in leading the Highlanders to a perfect 2-0 week in CSAC play. Against Saint Elizabeth, Clark had 22 points and 12 rebounds with 2 blocked shots and followed up with 15 points and 17 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards, vs. Valley Forge on Saturday. At the end of January, Clark leads the CSAC in all rebounding categories - rebounds per game (13.6), total rebounds (312), total offensive rebounds (124), offensive rebounds per game (5.4), total defensive rebounds (188), and defensive rebounds per game (8.2).

Anderson averaged 24.5 points per game in a 2-0 league week for Keystone, shooting 52.6% from three (10-of-19) and 50% from the field (14-of-28). Anderson also shot 85% from the free-throw line (11-13) while adding in 8 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks. This is the third CSAC Player of the Week this season for the CSAC leader in total 3-point field goals made, 3-point field goals percentage (42.3%), free-throw percentage (86.9%) and minutes played (38.7 minutes per game). Anderson is also third in scoring average (20.7 points per game).
Antonio Bussey / Sr / Wlson College / Aiken, S.C. / Aiken HS (Defensive)
Bussey was prominent in Wilson's 2-0 week against the two top teams in the CSAC as he averaged 10 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He opened with 13 points, seven rebounds, and a block in the Phoenix's win at Rosemont and followed up with seven points and 12 rebounds at home against Cairn. Defensively his presence forced the Ravens to shoot more from the outside as the Phoenix outscored them 58-28 inside the paint. Wilson also outrebounded Rosemont 32-18. Cairn was limited to 30 points in the paint while none of the Highlanders reached double-figures offensively. This is the third CSAC Player of the Week honor for Bussey.

Flowers-Smith averaged 33.5 points per game, including a career-high 46 points at Bryn Athyn on Saturday. The first year shot 55.8% (24-for-43) from the field and 47.4% (9-for-19) from three and recorded 6 assists, 3 blocked shots, and 2 steals in two games this week. With one week left in CSAC play, Flowers-Smith is 2
nd in scoring average (22.9 points per game), 3-point field goals per game (2.5), assists per game (4.9) and 3
rd in steals per game (2.4).

CSAC ANNOUNCES MEN’S BASKETBALL END-OF-YEAR AWARDS FOR 2022-2023
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) is proud to announce the 2022-2023 All-CSAC Men’s Basketball team. The team, composed of players from all eight CSAC institutions that sponsor men’s basketball, was voted upon by the coaches in the league.
The team includes first, second, and honorable mention All-CSAC honorees. Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year were awarded as well as All-Sportsmanship honorees.
Player of the Year went to Keystone College sophomore guard
Jack Anderson. The 2021-2022 CSAC All-Second Team and Rookie of the Year had a fantastic follow up season where he averaged 19.5 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, and 2.9 assists per game. Anderson also led the CSAC in 3-Point Field Goals (81) as well as 3-Point Field Goals per game (3.1) while finishing runner up in Free Throw Percentage (.833) and 9
th in Field Goal Percentage (.489). This is the first CSAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year honor for Keystone College.
Co-Defensive Player of the Year went to
Pierre Harden from Saint Elizabeth and
Antonio Bussey from Wilson.
Harden averaged 18.3 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game. He was 2
nd in the CSAC with 31 blocks for a 1.5 blocks per game average. Harden is the only player from Saint Elizabeth to have won Defensive Player of the Year, winning it outright last season.
Bussey led the league in blocked shots with 33 total for a 1.5 blocks per game average. He also averaged 8.6 rebounds per game and finished in the Top 5 of all CSAC rebounding categories. Bussey is the first Wilson student-athlete to win CSAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Year.
Rookie of the Year was awarded to
Javen Flowers-Smith from Keystone College. The first-year lead the CSAC in scoring at 24 points per game including the top-2 scoring outputs of the season (46 points vs. Bryn Athyn on February 11 and 44 points at Cairn on February 22nd in the CSAC Semi-Finals). Flowers-Smith trailed only teammate Jack Anderson in 3-point Field Goals per Game (2.6) and was 5
th in Free Throw Percentage (.753). He was also 2
nd in the CSAC in Steals with 56 total and 2.4 per game. This is the first CSAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year honor for Keystone College.
Coach of the Year was awarded to
Jason O’Connell from Cairn. This is the 2
nd Coach of the Year nod for O’Connell who previously was honored in the 2018-2019 season. This season, Cairn finished 17-9 and 12-2 in CSAC play earning the #1 seed in the tournament and a conference tournament appearance for the fourth straight season.
