2007 Men's Lacrosse Pre-Season Coaches' Poll


PAC Coaches Select Cavaliers as Pre-Season Men’s Lacrosse Favorite
Aston, PA – Cabrini College’s men’s lacrosse team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) coaches’ poll. The defending conference champion Cavaliers received six of the seven first-place votes for a total of 63 points to finish ahead of Wesley College.

Under Head Coach Steve Colfer, the Cavaliers have won 6 straight conference titles, earned five NCAA berths and finished in the top 20 twice in the last three years.

"It is always a great honor to be picked by your peers,” said Colfer.  “We hope to work hard and accomplish our goals in a competitive PAC conference.  We look forward to defending our 2006 PAC championship".

Wesley earned a total of 57 points including the last first-place vote to finish in second place in the poll.  College Misericordia was selected third with 43 points.

Eastern University (36), Shenandoah University (31), Alvernia College (24), Neumann College (21), and Immaculata University (13) rounded out the voting.
The 2007 PAC Championship begins with semifinal action on Wednesday, May 2nd.  The PAC Championship Game is set for Saturday, May 5th.

2007 Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week

Co-Player of the Week
Cabrini College’s Casey Grugan (Fr, A, Ridley Park, PA/ Ridley High) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for the week ending April 29th.  Gruganscored ten goals and added three assists for the #14 ranked Cavaliers in a 2-0 PAC week.  Grugan recorded a career-high six goals and added one assist in the 19-4 win against Eastern University and four goals and two assists in the 20-10 victory over Shenandoah University.

Wesley College’s Nick Pisacano (Fr, M, King’s Park, NY/ Kings Park) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for the week ending April 29th.  Pisacano scored eight goals and added six assists for the Wolverines in a 2-0 PAC week.  In the 23-4 victory over Immaculata University, Pisacano scored three goals and five assists.  Pisacano recorded five goals and one assist in the 15-4 defeat of Alvernia College.

College Misericordia’s Ryan Dwyer (So, G, Jefferson Township, NJ/ Jefferson) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for the week ending April 22nd.  Dwyer averaged 4.0 goals allowed per game with a 73.3% save percentage for the Cougars in a 2-0 (1-0 PAC) week.

Shenandoah University’s Steve Mayor (Jr, A, Fairport, NY/ Fairport) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for the week ending April 22nd.  Mayor scored five goals on seven shots and added three assists for the Hornets in a 1-0 PAC week.

Wesley College’s Dan Skeels (Fr, A, Roseland, NJ/ West Essex) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending April 15th.  Skeels scored eight goals and added an assist for the Wolverines in a 2-0 conference week.  Skeels recorded four goals in the 21-7 defeat of Shenandoah and four goals and an assist in the 12-2 win over College Misericordia.

College Misericordia’s Sean Collins (Sr, A, Endicott, NY/ Union Endicott) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending April 8th.  Collins scored 5 goals and added two assists to lead the Cougars to a 14-3 victory over Cazenovia College.  Collins became College Misericordia’s all-time leading scorer with 190 career points.

Casey Grugan, Cabrini College (Fr, A, Ridley, PA/ Ridley) - had four goals and two assists to lead the Cavaliers to a 19-5 victory over Immaculata University.

Cabrini College’s Casey Grugan (Fr, A, Ridley, PA/ Ridley) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending April 2nd.  Grugan scored five goals and added six assists for the Cavaliers in a 2-0 (1-0 PAC) week.  Grugan tallied two goals and three assists in the 11-10 defeat of defending National Champion, Cortland State.

Shenandoah University’s Justin Ratcliff (Sr, A, Dumfries, VA/ Potomac) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending March 25th.  Ratcliff scored nine goals and added four assists for the Hornets in a 1-1 (1-0 PAC) week.  In the 13-2 defeat over Alvernia College, Ratcliff notched seven goals and one assist.

Cabrini College’s Scott Reimer
 (So, A, Downingtown/  Downingtown) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for the week ending March 18th.  Reimer scored seven goals and added four assists for the Cavaliers in a 3-1 non-conference week.

Shenandoah University’s Teddy Rogers (Jr, Grand Island, NY/ Grand Island) was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for the week ending March 18th.  Rogers scored six goals and added eights assists for the undefeated (3-0) Hornets.

#1 Cabrini College 16, #2 Wesley College 0

RADNOR, Pa. (May 5) – The Cabrini College Cavaliers captured their fifth straight Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse championship with 16-0 win over visiting Wesley College Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the 14th ranked Cavaliers (15-2 overall, 9-0 PAC) advance to the NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament for the sixth straight season.  Wesley ends the season at 10-7 overall and 7-2 in PAC play.

In the first half, junior Matt Conaway (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) collected three goals, sophomore Scot Reimer  (Downingtown Pa., Downingtown West) added two and Casey Grugan (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) and Pat Jenkins (South Brunswick N.J./South Brunswick) added single tallies as Cabrini took a 7-0 lead. Jenkins goal, coming after a Cavalier timeout with 11 seconds left in the half, all but finished the Wolverines.

Cabrini went on a 7-0 run in the third period and coasted to the win to lock up their sixth PAC title in the last seven years and their sixth straight NCAA tournament berth. Cabrini has won the PAC title every year since 2001 except for 2002.  

Conaway led the Cavaliers with five goals while Reimer ended with four. Grugan ended the day with three goals and three assists. Romanelli scored two goals while Pat Jenkins and Chris Luongo each added solo goals.  Rob Tinsley, Jeff Moore and Steve Heaps collected assists. Kevin Quinn stopped four Wesley shots in the win.

PAC Semifinal

#1 Cabrini College 15, #4 Eastern University 4

RADNOR, Pa. (May 2) -- The Cabrini College men’s lacrosse team rolled to a 15-4 win over visiting Eastern Wednesday night in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse semi-final game. 
The Cavaliers will now host Wesley College Saturday at 3 p.m. for a chance at their eighth straight PAC title.  The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team hosts Eastern Saturday in the women’s final at noon. 
 
The freshmen duo of Casey Grugan (four goals, four assists) and Rich Romanelli (four goals) provided most of the scoring for Cabrini, which rolled out to an 8-1 lead at halftime and never looked back.
 
Matt McKinney and Chris Barron (one assist) each added two goals while B.J. Kletcheck (one assist) and Matt Conaway (three assists) added solo tallies for the Cavaliers, now ranked 14th in the nation. Kevin Quinn turned back three shots in the win.
 
Eastern fell to 7-10 with the loss. Pat Dempsey scored two goals for the Eagles while Nate Trunfio and Kyle Dresser each added one.
 
Cabrini (14-2, 8-0 PAC) knocked off Wesley, 11-1 back on March 24. The Wolverines topped Shenandoah 24-4 in the other men’s PAC semi-final Wednesday.  They will bring a 10-6 overall and 7-1 PAC record into Saturday’s final.
 
The winner of the PAC title game receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament.

#2 Wesley College 24, #3 Shenandoah University 4

Dover, DE (May 2) -- The Wesley College (10-6, 7-1) Men’s Lacrosse team breezed past Shenandoah University (9-4, 5-3) in the PAC semifinals at Wolverine Stadium 24-4.  Rob King (Howell, NJ) scored 5 goals and added an assist and Brad Bivens (Dover, DE) netted three goals and added 3 assists to help power Wesley to the PAC Finals.  Wesley will meet six-time PAC Champions Cabrini College (13-2, 8-0) on Saturday, May 5th.  As the higher seed, Cabrini will host the Wolverines.

The Wolverines scored the first six goals of the game, three by Justin Thompson (Pasadena, MD) in the first quarter.  Thompson ended the game with four goals.  Bivens scored his three goals in the second quarter as Wesley took a commanding 13-2 lead into half.

Wesley continued to dominate in the second half peppering the Shenandoah goal with 29 shots.  Wesley outshot the Hornets 61-11 and held a sizeable margin in ground balls. 

Goalie, Nick Allen (Owings, MD) got the win with out making one save.
