ROSEMONT PICKED FIRST IN 2023 CSAC MEN'S LACROSSE COACHES POLL

The Ravens collect three first-place votes

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Rosemont College was selected as the favorite in the 2023 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) preseason poll conducted among the league’s men’s lacrosse coaches.
 
Rosemont collected three first-place votes for a total of 14 points.  The Ravens finished last season 2-2 in CSAC play and finished their season in the CSAC Tournament Semi-Finals bowing out to NCAA Tournament-bound Stockton University.  Cairn comes in second place with 10 points headed up by a new head coach, Stephen Hogan, who will lead the Highlanders into their third season of competition in 2023.
 
Bryn Athyn, comes in third with 9 total points, as the Lions look to improve on a 1-5 CSAC record from last season.  Keystone College picked up one first-place vote and finished the preseason poll with 7 total points.  
 
Initial games begin on Saturday, February 18th as Alvernia University visits Rosemont at 2pm and SUNY Cobleskill visits Cairn at 7pm.  CSAC league play begins on Wednesday, April 5th when Rosemont visits Cairn at 4pm. 
 
This season the CSAC has entered into a partnership with the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) that will allow all seven institutions to be eligible for automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championships.
 
As part of the agreement, the NECC and the CSAC will form their own “division”. Each division will play its own regular season with the CSAC and NECC champion meeting on the campus of the CSAC champion on Saturday, May 6th

2023 CSAC Players of the Week

March 6, 2023
Jonathan Balsamo / Jr / Cairn University / Long Island, N.Y. / Easport South Manor (Offensive)
Balsamo led the Highlander attack with four goals and an assist in a narrow loss to the College of Mount Saint Vincent.  Early in the season, Balsamo leads the Highlanders with 7 goals and 3 assists for 10 points.  His 7 goals is also tied for the CSAC lead while the 10 points is 2nd in the CSAC with a 3.33 points per game average.

Nico Cione / So / Cairn University / Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury (Defensive)
Cione secured a game-high 17 saves in the complete game effort against the College of Mount Saint Vincent.  Early in the season, Cione leads the CSAC in Saves Percentage (.560) and Saves per Game (18.67).

March 13, 2023
Jamal White / Jr / Bryn Athyn College / Philadelphia, Pa. / Springfield Township (Offensive)
White opened the Lions season by accounting for half the scores by either goal or assist in the 20-4 win over La Roche.  White netted five goals on 9 shots on goal, handed out five assists, and picked up four ground balls.

Dembski finished the week with 14 ground balls and went 33-for-57 (58%) at faceoffs in the two games this week. 

March 20, 2023
Jamal White / Jr / Bryn Athyn College / Philadelphia, Pa. / Springfield Township (Offensive)
White set the single-game program record for the Lions with 12 points in a 19-6 win over Centenary.  White was responsible for 12 of the 19 goals with his 8 goals and 4 assists.  This the Lions first 2-0 start since 2015.  Currently, White leads the CSAC in Goals per Game (6.5), Assists per Game (4.50), Shots per Game (13.5), and Points per Game (11.0).

Nico Cione / So / Cairn University / Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury (Defensive)
Cione had 19 saves on 42 shots faced as the Highlanders picked up a Win vs. SUNY-Purchase.  Currently, Cione leads the CSAC in Saves Percentage (.597) and Saves per Game (17.8).

March 27, 2023
Cole Heffler / FY / Cairn University / Eldersburg, Md. / Central Maryland Christian (Offensive)
Heffler set a new Cairn single-game record with 9 points on three goals and 6 assists as the Highlanders defeated Centenary (NJ) on Wednesday evening.  His three goals came on four shots, and he also picked up 7 ground balls on the night.  The six assists in a game are also a new program record.  On Saturday, in a loss against Delaware Valley, Heffler went 1-for-1 with one goal on one shot on goal.  Currently, Heffler ranks 10th in the CSAC in Points per Game at 2.29 with 16 total points in 7 games played.

Simon paced Keystone with three caused turnovers and six ground balls at Keuka on Saturday.  At this time, Simon ranks 8th in the CSAC with 1.5 Caused Turnovers per Game. 

April 3, 2023
Ryan Smith / FY / Keystone College / Warrington, Pa. / Central Bucks South (Offensive)
Smith tallied seven goals on the week, scoring a program-record six goals against Albertus Magnus on Thursday.  The first-year leads the Giants with 16 scores this season which is currently 2nd in the CSAC.  Smith is also 5th in the CSAC in Points per Game (3.00) and leads the CSAC in Shots per Game (12.5) 

Cody Dembski / FY / Keystone College / Agoura Hills, Ca. / Agoura (Defensive)
Dembski won 45-of-59 faceoff opportunities this week and notched 29 groundballs, setting the program record with 27 faceoff wins on Thursday against Albertus Magnus.  Dembski leads the CSAC in Ground Balls per Game (10.17) and total groundballs (61).

April 10, 2023
Anthony Hott / FY / Keystone College / Warminster, Pa. / William Tennet (Offensive)
Hott had two goals and two assists against Farmingdale State on Tuesday.  The first-year ranks second on the team with 14 goals and leads the Giants with 21 points on the season.  Hott ranks 5th in the CSAC in Goals and Total Points and tied for 4th in Assists.

Jojo Kobayashi / FY / Keystone College / Princeton Junction, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro South (Defensive)
Kobayashi finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers against Farmingdale State on Tuesday.  The first-year leads Keystone with 14 caused turnovers on the season, good for 2nd in the CSAC, and ranks 5th in the CSAC with a 2.00 Caused Turnovers per Game average.

April 17, 2023
Navarro Blakes / Jr / Rosemont College / PG County, Md. / Northwestern (Offensive)
Blakes had 19 points on the week and broke the school record for total points and assists in the game vs. Keystone with 4 goals, 11 assists for 15 points.  On Wednesday against Bryn Athyn, Blakes had a goal and 3 assists for four points.  Blakes currently leads the CSAC in Assists per Game (3.60) and is 2nd in Points per Game (4.80).

Cione was in the net as the Lions went 2-0 on the week.  He made 34 saves, including 25 against Keystone on Wednesday.  Currently, Cione leads the CSAC in Saves Percentage (.646), Saves per Game (17.00), and is 2nd in Goals Against Average (9.89). 

April 24, 2023
Mason Dennis / Gr./ Rosemont College / North Wales, Pa. / Frankford HS (Offensive)
Dennis finished the week with 6 goals, 5 assists and 23 ground balls with 9 caused turnovers.  Dennis had 3 goals, 3 assists, 14 ground balls, and 6 caused turnovers in the victory over Cairn to secure the 1-seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs.  Dennis is 3rd in the CSAC in Ground Balls per Game (5.92), 5th in Caused Turnovers per Game (1.75), 4th in Assists per Game (1.75), 5th in Points per Game (3.83), 5th in total goals (25), and 6th in Goals per Game (2.08). 

Tim Ragan / Sr / Bryn Athyn College / Philadelphia, Pa. / New Foundations Charter (Defensive)
Ragan led the Lions to a 1-1 week scooping up 24 ground balls while forcing 9 turnovers.  He also added 3 goals and 3 assists.  Ragan is 2nd in the CSAC in groundball total (81), Ground Balls per Game (10.13), and ranks first in Caused Turnovers per Game (3.25).

CSAC Announces Men's Lacrosse End-of-Year Awards for 2023

VILLANOVA, Pa. -  The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) is proud to announce the 2023 All-CSAC Men’s Lacrosse team.  The team, composed of players from all four CSAC institutions that sponsor men’s lacrosse, was voted upon by the coaches in the league.
 
The team includes All-CSAC honorees as well as Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and All-Sportsmanship honorees.  The student-athletes were nominated by their coaches and voted upon by the conference’s four head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
 
Player of the Year went to Rosemont College graduate student Mason Dennis (North Wales, PA / Frankford HS).  The midfielder was all over the CSAC leaderboards on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, finishing on the offensive side 3rd with 58 Total Points, 4th with 4.14 Points per Game, 5th in Total Goals with 32, 6th in Goals per Game with 2.29, 2nd in Total Assists with 26, and 3rd in Assists per Game with 1.86.  Defensively, Dennis was 3rd in the CSAC with 25 total Caused Turnovers, with a 1.79 Caused Turnover per game average, and 3rd in Ground Balls (85) and Ground Balls per Game with 6.07.  Dennis was previously named All-CSAC in 2022 (Second Team) and 2021 (Honorable Mention).    
 
Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year went to Keystone College first-year Cody Dembski (Agoura Hills, CA / Agoura HS).  Dembski had a big first season in CSAC play leading the conference in Ground Balls with 163 and Ground Balls per Game with a 12.54 per game average.  The Ground Balls per Game average is good for 4th in NCAA Division III.  Dembski also has a .687 Face-Off Winning Percentage, good for 9th in NCAA Division III.  This is the first CSAC Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year and first Defensive Player of the Year for Keystone College and second First-Team honoree in program history (Gabe Reyes in 2022).
 
Coach of the Year was awarded to Jack Crawford from Bryn Athyn College.  This is the first CSAC Coach of the Year nod for Crawford who has numerous Coach of the Year awards at the high school level.  In his third full season in charge, Crawford led the Lions back to the playoffs ultimately earning the #3 seed in the CSAC Men’s Lacrosse Tournament.
