Wesley Earns Bid to NCAA Division III Tournament
Fifth Consecutive Appearance by the Wolverines
 
Dover, DE – Wesley College, the 2003 Division III National Runner-Up, is making its 5th (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003) consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Wesley will represent the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference on May 10-13, at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club of Oak Valley in Calimesa, California, and will be hosted by University of Redlands.
 
The Wolverines are led by junior Zac Oakley (Lewes, DE/Greenwood Mennonite) and sophomore Brock Cerklefskie (Dover, DE/Dover). Oakley, the 2004 PAC individual champion and 4th place finisher in the 2003 Division III National Tournament will be looked upon to lead the young Wolverine team, along with Cerklefskie, a 1st Team All-PAC selection in 2003 and 2004.

2004 Men's Golf Pre-Season Coaches' Poll

PAC Coaches Select Wesley as Pre-Season Golf Favorite
 
Aston, PA - Wesley College's men's golf team, a national powerhouse in recent seasons, has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) coaches poll. Wesley, the five-time defending Conference Champions, was a unanimous selection, earning all eight first-place votes for a total of 64 points.
 
Alvernia College, which finished in third at the PAC Championships a year ago, finished second in the poll by three points. The Crusaders earned 52 points to outdistance Eastern University, selected to finish third with a total of 49 points.
 
“We are thrilled to have the PAC coaches honor our team as the preseason favorite," Wesley head coach Rick McCall said. "We feel we deserve to represent the PAC in this position after finishing second in the country last year. Our team is looking forward to the challenge of continuing our rich tradition here at Wesley and in the PAC."
 
Wesley's golfers finished one through five at last year's PAC Championships, and most of them return to the team this year. The Wolverines ended up as the NCAA Division III runner-up in 2003.
 
Neumann College (38), Cabrini College (32), College Misericordia (24), Gwynedd-Mercy College (16) and Arcadia University (13) rounded out the voting.
 
The PAC Championships will be held from April 25-26 at Bella Vista Golf Club in Gilbertsville, PA.

Golfers of the Week
 
March 29 - Neumann College's Justin Riccardi (Sr, Parrish, FL/Crenshaw) - Riccardi shot a team-low 81 at Torresdale-Frankford Country Club on Friday.
 
April 5 - Cabrini College's Elliott Kohr (Jr, Glenville, PA/Delone Catholic) - In Cabrini's two matches during the week, Kohr shot the low total for the day.
 
April 12 - Neumann College's Robert Hornibrook (Sr, Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) - Hornibrook won medalist honors at LuLu Country Club, shooting the low round of the day (74) to help the Knights to a second-place finish in their only match of the week.
 
April 19 - Wesley College's Zac Oakley (Jr, Lewes, DE/Greenwood Mennonite) - Oakley was the medalist at the Wesley College Invitational, shooting a round of 73. He also tied for first at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational, shooting a two-day total od 145 (66-79). His scores helped the Wolverines to first- and second-place finishes, respectively.
 
April 26 - Cabrini College's Matt Paris (Fr, Lafayette Hill, PA/Archbishop Carroll) -Paris was the medalist at the Neumann College Tri-Match at Brandywine Country Club, shooting a round of 79. He also tied for first at the Alvernia College Invitational, shooting a round of 81 at Hawk Valley.

Wesley 22nd After Day One; Oakley Leads Wolverines
 
The Wesley Wolverines, six-time PAC champions, are in 22nd place after the first round of the NCAA Division III Golf Championship at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club at Oak Valley in Beaumont, CA, hosted by the University of Redlands. Wesley shot a +35 (323), 33 strokes behind Ohio Wesleyan (290)
 
Individually, two-time PAC Individual titlist (2002 & 2004) Zac Oakley (Jr, Lewes, DE/Greenwood Mennonite) is leading the Wolverines after carding a round of 77 (+5). Will Scarborough (Fr, Dover, DE/Dover) is four strokes back (81, +9). Tyler Smith (Fr, Dover, DE/Dover) is at +10, Brock Cerlefskie (So, Dover, DE/Dover) is at +11 and Brooks Massey (Jr, Laurel, DE/Laurel) is at +18.

NCAA Second Round
Wesley 21st After Day Two; Oakley Continues to Lead Wolverines
 
On day two of the Division III National Golf Tournament Wesley bettered its first day mark by 8 strokes shooting a team total of 315 (323-315=638 +62). Wesley’s low round was shot by Zac Oakley (Jr, Lewes, DE/Greenwood Mennonite) with a 77 (77-77=144 +10), while Will Scarborough (Fr, Dover, DE/Dover) (81-78=159 +15) and Tyler Smith (Fr, Dover, DE/Dover) (82-79=161 +17) had rounds of 78 and 79. Brock Cerklefskie (So, Dover, DE/Dover) (83-81=164 +20) and Brooks Massey (Jr, Laurel, DE/Laurel) (90-91=181 +37) shot an 81 and 91 on day 2. Wesley stands tied for 21st place overall.

Wesley tied for 22nd After Day Three; Smith shoots Wolverines Low Round of 77
 
The Wolverines fell into a tie for 22nd place overall at the Division III National Golf Tournament shooting a team total of 319. Wesley is now at +93 overall in the tournament. Tyler Smith (Fr, Dover, DE/Dover) had the low round for round 3 shooting a 77 (82-79-77=238 +22) and is in a tie with teammate Zac Oakley (Jr, Lewes, DE/Greenwood Mennonite) in 79th place overall. Oakley shot an 84 (77-77-84= 238 +22). Will Scarborough (Fr, Dover, DE/Dover) is leading the Wolverines posting a score of 78 (81-78-78=237 +21) on day 3.

NCAA Final Round
Wesley Finishes in 21st Place; Oakley Fires Final Round 75

The Wesley Wolverines finished the 2004 NCAA Division III Golf Championship in 21st place. The Wolverines were led by two-time PAC titlist Zac Oakley (Jr, Lewes, DE/Greenwood Mennonite) who shot a final round total of 75 (+3). He shot a four-day total of 313 (+25). Brock Cerklefskie (So, Dover, DE/Dover) shot a 76 (+4) on Thursday, finishing at 322 (+34). Will Scarborough (Fr, Dover, DE/Dover) ended his first NCAA Tournament with a 78 (+6), his third straight day of 78, good for 315 (+27). Tyler Smith (Fr, Dover, DE/Dover) was +9 (81) in the final round for a four-day total of 319 (+31). Brooks Massey (Jr, Laurel, DE/Laurel) ended with an 83 (+11) for a final total of 346 (+58).
