2013 Men's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll

Keystone College has been selected first in a tight 2013 Colonial States Athletic Conference men’s golf preseason coaches'  poll.  The Giants, coached by Don Cole, received 68 points, and two first-place votes, to finish ahead of Immaculata University (59 points/3 first-place),  Neumann (52/2), and Centenary (52/1).

“I appreciate the respect shown to our program by my fellow CSAC coaches,” Cole said, “but I am always cautious when being picked to have a championship season.  We are going to do our best to prepare for this upcoming season, and will do our best to try to live up to this preseason ranking.”

Following Centenary, Cabrini was tabbed fifth, with 47 points, followed by Marywood (41), Baptist Bible (33), Rosemont (30/1 first-place), and Cairn (23).

Last season, the Giants finished in second place at the CSAC championships, with a two-day score of 651 (329-322).  Keystone returns its top four finishers from last season’s conference tourney, led by  Colin McAndrew, who carded a two-day score of 159 (79-80) to finish sixth at the CSAC event.  McAndrew is joined by a trio of Second Team All-CSAC performers in Sam Stewart (80-83/163 at CSAC Championship), Matt Lewis (84-80/164) and Matt Millan (86-79/165).

Immaculata, coached by Tana Thomas, returns a veteran lineup of two seniors and two juniors, compared to just one freshman and sophomore.  Leading these returnees is Todd Boisvert, who earned Second Team All-CSAC honors in 2012 after finishing the CSAC tournament with a two-day score of 165 (86-79).  Boisvert averaged a team-best 82.7 over 15 rounds last season, while Pete Kotula is also back, after averaging an even 83.0 in 16 rounds a season ago.

Neumann, under coach Frank Sill, won the 2012 CSAC Championship, with the Knights carding a two-day team score of 649 (328-321) to defeat Keystone by two strokes.  The team’s returnees will be led by a pair of golfers that finished among the top seven in last season’s conference championship, including Ryan Dreger and Bruce Bandos.  Dreger was a First Team All-CSAC performer, turning in a championship score of 158 (76-82), while Bandos earned Second Team All-CSAC honors by tying for seventh with a two-day score of 160 (83-77).

Centenary took third at last year’s CSAC championship under coach Josh Huber, and returns its top four players from 2012.  Rob Linepensel was the Cyclones’ top finisher at the CSAC championships last season, earning First Team All-CSAC honors after finishing one stroke off the individual lead (79-75/154).  Second Team All-CSAC honoree Billy McNeir, who took 11th at the conference championships (84-80/165) is back, as is Brian Criscuolo, who holds three of the top seven lowest scores in program history.

The 2013 CSAC Championships are scheduled for April 26-27, and will be hosted by Marywood University at the Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pa.
