LANCASTER BIBLE PICKED FIRST IN 2023 CSAC MEN'S VOLLEYBALL COACHES POLL

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Lancaster Bible College was selected as the favorite in the 2023 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) preseason poll conducted among the league’s men’s volleyball coaches. 

Lancaster Bible, in its first season as an associate member of the CSAC for men’s volleyball, received all seven first-place votes for a total of 49 points. The Chargers finished last season 16-11 after competing as an independent and against several nationally ranked opponents.

Cairn University collected 42 points to come in second looking to defend their back-to-back CSAC championships.  Saint Elizabeth fell to Cairn in last year’s championship game and collected 33 points for a third-place preseason placement.

Wilson College was voted to finish fourth with 26 points while University of Valley Forge was picked fifth with 24 points. 

Bryn Athyn, in its second season of varsity competition, received 12 points and Pratt Institute took 10 points in its second season as an associate member of the CSAC.

Initial competitions began on Saturday, January 14th with Cairn’s double header vs. St. John Fisher and Misericordia.  CSAC league play begins on Tuesday, January 24th as Bryn Athyn travels to Valley Forge. 

The championships are set for Tuesday, April 11th as the top four seeds square off in the semifinals.  Championship Saturday is April 15th at the highest remaining seed.

2023 CSAC Players of the Week

February 13, 2023
Hunter Davis / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Holtwood, Pa. / Penn Manor (Offensive)
Davis helped the Chargers beat Randolph-Macon, who was Receiving Votes in the latest national polls, as Lancaster Bible has raced out to a 6-3 record to begin the season.  Against the Yellow Jackets, Davis had 8 kills on 21 attempts swinging at a .238 hitting percentage and tied the Chargers single-game record of 11 blocks.  Early in the season, Davis leads the CSAC in hitting percentage (.433) and blocks (1.21 per set).

Kobe Cash / So / Cairn University / Yardley, Pa. / Calvary Christian Academy (Defensive)
Cash manned the back row with a match-high 10 digs as the Highlanders swept Brooklyn College on Saturday.  On Thursday, Cash had another 10 digs and picked up 3 assists in a win vs. Neumann. 

February 20, 2023
Jason Raymond / So / Pratt Institute / Blacklick, Oh. / Lincoln HS (Offensive)
Raymond led the Cannoneers with a new career-high of 25 kills against Yeshiva as Pratt picked up its firs win of the season 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23).  Raymond his .294 (25-10-51) and had seven digs and three aces.  The 25 kills nearly matched that of Yeshiva’s 29 as a team.  At this point in the season, Raymond is 3rd in the CSAC with 3.2 Kills/set.

Jordan Kieffer / Jr / University of Valley Forge / Mohnton, Pa. / Homeschool (Defensive)
Kieffer stabilized the back row with 8 digs as the Patriots swept Neumann 3-0 on Friday.  Through the season, Kieffer is 6th in CSAC play with 2.26 Digs/set.

February 27, 2023
Joshua Hoagland / Sr / Cairn University / Chiang Rai, Thailand / Chiang Rai International Christian School (Offensive)
Hoagland led the Highlanders to a 2-1 week picking up victories against Widener and Drew.  On the week, Hoagland had 5 aces and swung at a .457 clip (24 kills – 5 errors – 40 attempts) including a .583 attack percentage (8-1-12) in a loss vs. Kean.   At this point in the season, Hoagland is 2nd in the CSAC in Hitting Percentage with a .351 percentage (54-15-111).

Garrett Olsen / Sr / University of Valley Forge / Manchester, Md. / Homeschool (Defensive)
As a middle blocker, Olsen picked up 8 blocks and 13 digs across their two matches including 10 kills and 2 aces.  Currently, Olsen is 6th in the CSAC in blocks.

March 6, 2023
Jonathan Minnick / So / Wilson College / Dublin, Va. / (Offensive)
Minnick helped Wilson’s offense achieve some of its best numbers of the season this week.  In a double-header vs. Immaculata on Saturday, Minnick recorded a season-best, in a three-set match, 27 assists in the first contest and followed up with a new season-best 47 assists in the four-set contest.  Currently, Minnick is 3rd in the CSAC with 7.25 assists per set. 

Xavier Webber / FY / Wilson College / Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East (Defensive)
Webber’s defense was central in a pair of matches with Immaculata on Saturday.  He opened up with 10 digs to lead the team before recording a match-high 15 digs in the second contest.  He recorded double-doubles in both contests with 14 and 16 kills, respectively.  Currently, Webber is 4th in the CSAC with 2.58 digs per set.

March 13, 2023
Xavier Webber / FY / Wilson College / Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East (Offensive)
Webber led the Wilson offense as the Phoenix went 3-1 on the week.  He reached double-figures in all four contests with 11 kills against Neumann, 15 in a five-set come from behind win against Mount Aloysius, 15 more in another five-set win against Valley Forge to open CSAC play, and 14 in a non-conference match against Valley Forge.  He hit .303 and .345 in the two matched with UVF and served six aces in the three wins, with four coming against Mount Aloysius.  He added double-digit digs in the first three matches to tally six double-doubles on the season

Noah Wickenheiser / Sr / Wilson College / Cresco, Pa. / Notre Dame (Defensive)
Wickenheiser averaged double figures in digs in four matches last week as the Phoenix went 3-1.  Against Neumann, Wickenheiser had 13 digs and then set a new career-high with 24 digs in a five-set win over Mount Aloysius.  He added 20 more digs in two wins over Valley Forge to start CSAC play on Saturday. Wickenheiser currently sits 2nd in the CSAC averaging 2.52 Digs per Set.

March 20, 2023
Elijah Herb / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Lebanon, Pa. / ELCO (Offensive)
Herb helped the Chargers to a 2-1 week by finishing with 50 kills and 4 blocks over the three matches.  On Saturday, Herb had back-to-back team high kills posting 20 kills versus Elizabethtown and 18 kills in a five-set loss to Arcadia.  Currently, Herb leads the CSAC in Total Kills (299), Kills per Set (3.65), Points (337), and Points per Set (4.11).

Tanner Shertzer / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley (Defensive)
Shertzer leads the back line with a total of 39 digs and a 13 digs per game average as the Chargers went 2-1 on the week.  In the win against Elizabethtown, Shertzer had 14 digs and 2 kills and, in a five-set loss to Arcadia, 16 digs.  Currently, Shertzer leads the CSAC in Total Digs (206) and is 4th in Digs per Set average (2.37).

March 27, 2023
Christian Herr / FY / Lancaster Bible College / Eastport, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor (Offensive)
Herr led the Chargers to a 3-0 week averaging 21 assists per game, including a 42-assist outing in a 3-0 victory over Cairn.  On Saturday, Herr totaled 14 kills, 7 aces and 3 blocks in the wins over Medgar Evers and Pratt.  Currently, Herr leads the CSAC in Total Assists (820) and is 2nd in Assists per Set (8.72) while the 42-assist performance versus Cairn leads the CSAC this season in Single Match Assists – 3 Sets.

Saria Alshaikhali / Jr / Wilson College / Jeddah, Saudia Arabia / Hayfield (Defensive)
Saria had 11 digs and picked up the third double-double of the season in the victory over Bryn Athyn on Saturday afternoon.  The 11-dig performance is tied for 3rd in the CSAC this season in Single Match Digs – 4 sets.  Earlier in the week, Saria had 8 digs and 2 blocks in a loss against Saint Elizabeth. 

April 3, 2023
Caleb Horning / Sr / Cairn University / Adamstown, Pa. / Cocalico HS (Offensive)
Horning led the Highlanders to a 2-0 week hitting .457 (21-5-35) with a pair of aces from the service line.  In Wednesday’s match versus Valley Forge, Horning went perfect 9-for-9 for a 1.000 hitting percentage and followed up with another 12 kills against Saint Elizabeth on Saturday.  The 2022 CSAC Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year is currently 7th in the CSAC in Points per Set (2.92), 8th in Kills per Set (2.33) and tied for 9th in Hitting Percentage. 

Tanner Shertzer / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley HS (Defensive)
Shertzer helped the Chargers go 2-0 and sweep all six sets in matches this week with 19 total digs over the two matches.  Shertzer had 10 digs versus Saint Elizabeth on Wednesday and had a game-high 9 digs against Wilson on Saturday.  Shertzer leads the team and the CSAC with 240 total digs on the season and averages 2.42 digs per set, good for 3rd in the CSAC.

April 10, 2023
Cameron Cronk / Sr / Cairn University / Quakertown, Pa. / Quakertown Community HS (Offensive)
Cronk led the Highlanders to a 2-0 week to end the regular season and lock up the number two seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs.  On Tuesday, Cronk had a match-high 11 kills and a .400 hitting percentage to go with 3 aces.  On Thursday, Cronk had a team-high 4 aces to go with 5 kills.  Cronk finished the regular season placing 8th in CSAC in total aces (19).

Jake Tolar / Sr. / Cairn University / Fort Mill, S.C. / Nation Ford HS (Defensive)
Tolar helped the Highlanders to a 2-0 week to end the regular season and lock up the number two seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs.  On Tuesday, Tolar had 6 blocks to go with 8 points in a 3-0 victory over Pratt.

CSAC Announces Men’s Volleyball End-of-Year Awards for 2023


CSAC ANNOUNCES MEN’S VOLLEYBALL END-OF-YEAR AWARDS FOR 2023?

VILLANOVA, Pa. -  The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) is proud to announce the 2023 All-CSAC Men’s Volleyball team.  The team, composed of players from all seven CSAC institutions that sponsor men’s volleyball, was voted upon by the coaches in the league.
 
The team includes first, second, and honorable mention All-CSAC honorees.  Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year were awarded as well as All-Sportsmanship honorees.
 
Player of the Year went to Lancaster Bible College senior Elijah Herb.  In the first season of CSAC play, Herb led the league in Kills per Set with a 3.74 average, good for 16th in NCAA Division III.  In March, Herb had a 20-kill match against Cairn in a 3-0 victory.  In 29 regular season matches, Herb had double-digit Kills in 18 of them.  Herb also leads the CSAC in Points per Set with a 4.24 average, good for 17th in NCAA Division III.
 
Defensive Player of the Year went to Hunter Davis from Lancaster Bible.  The senior led the CSAC in Total Blocks with 102 and Blocks per Set with 0.96, good for 17th in NCAA Division III.  Davis had 6 blocks in a 3-set match versus Marymount (VA) on April 5th; tied for 2nd most in the CSAC this season.  Additionally, Davis led the CSAC this season in Hitting Percentage swinging for .369 (188 kills – 50 Errors – 374 attempts). 
 
Rookie of the Year was awarded to Xavier Webber from Wilson College.  The first-year was third in CSAC in Total Kills with 221 and Total Kills per set (3.07) including a 20-kill match vs. Bryn Athyn.  Additionally, Webber was third in the CSAC in Total Service Aces with 27 and third in the CSAC for Total Points per Set with 3.68.  Webber tailed only CSAC Player of the Year Elijah Herb and fellow First Team honoree Moses Gamble in Points per Set and Kills per Set.  This is the first CSAC Men’s Volleyball Rookie of the Year honor for Wilson College and first First-Team honoree since Oliver Perry in 2021. 
 
Coach of the Year was awarded to Jade Brubaker from Lancaster Bible.  This is the first CSAC Coach of the Year nod for Brubaker who picked up Coach of the Year in the NEAC in 2017, 2018, and 2019 prior to Lancaster Bible joining the CSAC in 2023.  This season, Lancaster Bible finished 19-10 and 6-0 in CSAC play earning the #1 seed in the CSAC Men’s Volleyball Championship.
