PSU-BEHREND TOP PICK IN MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD COACHES' POLL


ASTON, Pa. – Penn State-Behrend was the unanimous pick of the coaches to finish first in the 2017 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) preseason coaches’ poll for men’s outdoor track and field.

The Lions, who won the first-ever CSAC championship last season, received 49 points and all seven first-place votes.

“We are honored by the vote of the coaches in the conference and look forward to the opportunity to defend both our women's and men's CSAC team championships from last season,“ said PSU-Behrend head coach Greg Cooper.

Behrend won the men’s title with 317 points, while Keystone College was second with 158 points.

The Giants, who will host this year’s championship on Saturday-Sunday, May 6-7, were second in the poll with 37 points. 

Marywood University was third with 35 points followed by Gwynedd Mercy University in fourth with 33 points, while Immaculata University placed fifth with 16 points.Primary Image

Franciscan University, which along with PSU-Behrend is an associate member of the CSAC, was sixth with 15 points, while Neumann University was seventh with 11 points.

2017 Track and Field Athletes of the Week

March 28, 2017
Matthew Grafton / Sr / Penn State Behrend / Worthington, Pa. / Kittaning (Track)
Won the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles at CAL U Early Bird, breaking the school record in the 400m hurdles and posting top 10 national times in both races. He also ran a leg on the 4x100m relay team which took 3rd in 42.67.

April 5, 2017
Nick Shaffer / FY / Gwynedd Mercy University / Methacton, Pa. / Methacton (Track)
Shaffer won the 200 meter race at the Millersville Metrics with a time of 22.36, and was second in the 100 meters at 11.12. He also finished second in the 4x1 meter relay with a time of 43.48.

Mitchell Obenrader / Sr / Penn State Behrend / Fryburg, Pa. / (Field)
At the CMU quad meet, Obenrader won the javelin with a throw of 61.42m, and also won the shot put 17.21m, which was a stadium record. He also placed 2nd overall and 1st in the scored meet in discus with 46.45m throw

Grafton took a week off from the hurdles and sprinted to the CSAC top and ECAC qualifying 100m time of 11.03 and the seond 200m time of 22.47 before splitting a 48.4 leg on the ECAC qualifying and CSAC leading 4x400m relay team that ran 3:23.45.

Patton won the pole vault at the Mount Union John Homon Invite by going 4.81m (15' 9.25") an event which he continues to lead the CSAC in. He then went to the triple jump where he leaped 12.86m (42' 2.25") which places him at the third spot in the CSAC and was the best CSAC triple jump of the weekend.

Ty Fenstermacher / FY / Keystone College / Shillington, Pa / Governor Mifflin HS (Track)
Fenstermacher won both hurdles events Saturday at the Misericordia Invitational to help lead Keystone to a fifth place overall finish. He won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.25 seconds before winning the 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 56.39 seconds.

Antonucci broke the Penn State Behrend school and facility record in the hammer throw with a 46.07m, 151' 2" mark which now sits #1 in the CSAC. He also placed second in the discus and shot put where he currently holds the #2 and #4 marks in the CSAC, respectively.

2017 CSAC Championship Results

PSU-Behrend captures CSAC Track and Field Championship
 

PSU-BEHREND CAPTURES CSAC TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

LAPLUME, Pa. – Penn State-Behrend won its second straight CSAC Track and Field Championship as they won both the men’s and women’s titles after the two-day championship hosted by Keystone College.

The men finished with a total team score of 280, while the women netted 306 points. Both teams won the championship last year in the inaugural CSAC Track and Field Championship.

Marywood finished second on both sides with scores of 188 on the men’s side and 162 on the women’s side. Host Keystone College was third with 133 points for the men and 100 points for the women.

PSU-Behrend also won all four individual always as Matthew Grafton was named CSAC Track Athlete of the Year, and Mitch Obenrader was named CSAC Field Athlete of the Year. For the women, Katelyn Hancock was named the CSAC Track Athlete of the Year, while Haley Yenchik was named the CSAC Field Athlete of the Year.

Grafton won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.30, while he finished second in the 100 with a time of 11.55 and in the 400 hurdles at 54.35, second in the javelin at 49.18 meters and fifth in the 200 meter dash at 23.16.

Obenrader won the shot put with a mark of 17.56 meters, the discus with a throw of 47.75 meters and the hammer with a toss of 42.56 meters.

Hancock captured the 800 meter run with a time of 2:18.81, the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:35.40 was second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.31 and was second in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:09.33.

Finally, Yenchik won the pole vault at 3.35 meters, the triple jump at 10.82 meters, was second in the long jump at 4.89 meters ad was tied for sixth in the high jump at 1.28 meters.
