PSU-Behrend top pick in track and field coaches' poll
 

PSU-BEHREND TOP PICK IN TRACK AND FIELD COACHES' POLL

ROSEMONT, Pa. – Penn State Behrend was the top pick of the coaches in the 2019 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released by the conference office on Friday morning.

The Lions, who have won all three CSAC championships, received 24 points and four first-place votes in the women’s poll, while scoring 15 points and three first-place votes in the men’s voting.

We are honored to be thought of like this by the end of coaches vote,” said Greg Cooper, PSU-Behrend head coach. “We look forward to competing at a high level and competing with all of the quality programs in the CSAC.” 

In the men’s poll, Franciscan University of Steubenville was second with nine points, while Keystone College and newcomer Alfred State College were tied for third with eight points.

The women’s poll saw Keystone College second with 17 points, Franciscan University of Steubenville in third with 15 points and one first-place vote.

Alfred State College was fourth with 14 points, while Notre Dame of Maryland University, who is fielding a team for the first time in school history, was fifth with five points.

Teams will begin competing this weekend, with the 2019 CSAC Championship set for May 4-5, at Keystone College.

Antonio posted the top time in the CSAC 200m dash at the Slippery Rock Open in 22.17 seconds. That also makes him the 4th fastest individual in Behrend history. He followed that up with a win in the 100m and 200m at the Behrend Open.

Placed 2nd in the Shot at the Behrend Open and qualified for the All-Atlantic Meet with a PR by almost a whole meter, throwing 13.86m. He also threw the Discus for the first time this season and set the 5th best mark in the CSAC.

CSAC TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP SET TO START SATURDAY


Date: Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5, 2019
Host: Keystone College

ROSEMONT, Pa. – For the second time in the four year history of the meet, Keystone College will play host to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships. The two-day meet will take place at the Turf Field and Track & Field Complex, starting on Saturday

Since the championship started three years ago, Penn State Behrend has won the titles on both sides.

The Lions, along with host Keystone, Notre Dame of Maryland University and associate members Alfred State and Franciscan will start the action at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the multis.

A quick look at the field on the men’s side:
The sprints (100, 200, 400, 110 HH, 400H)
In the 100, the top seed time belongs to Jacob Wadsworth from Alfred State with an 11.00, while teammate Cameron Howard has a 11.15. PS-Behrend’s Antonio Stello has a 11.30.

In the 200, Stello has a top time of 22.17, followed by Kurt Eberhardt from PS-Behrend at 22.55. Fellow Lion Nicholas Coleman has a 22.87.

In the 400, the top seed time is Coleman from PS-Behrend at 50.67. Teammate Eric Stehlik is second at 51.36 with James Craig from Franciscan in third at 51.70.

In the 110 hurdles, Colby Tarr of PS-Behrend has the top seed time of 16.51 while Wadsworth is second with 16.78. Jacob Frazier is third at 17.09. In the 400 hurdles, Wadsworth has the top time at 57.90 with Frazier second at 1:01.08. Tarr is third at 1:01.30.

The distance (800, 1500, 5K, 10K, 3000 steeple)
In the 800, Liam Galligan from Franciscan and Zac Tingley from PS-Behrend are separated by just .01 of a second in seeds times at 1:57.49 and 1:57.50.

In the 1500, the top seed time belongs to Mark Borek of Franciscan at 4:00.25 followed by Nicholas Long at 4:05.37.

In the 5k, Galligan has the top time of 14:55.20 with Borek in second at 15:50.37.

Finally, in the 10K, Nick Post of PS-Behrend has the top seed time of 36:51.40.  

The jumps (Long, Triple, High, Pole Vault)
In the high jump, Brady Smith from PS-Behrend has a mark of 2.00 meters even, followed by Jacob Wadsworth and Zion Ponder each with a 1.89 meter mark.

In the triple, Keystone’s Eddie Sichilongo is tops with a 13.23 meter mark, followed by Zion Ponder with a 12.85.

In the long, Wadsworth has a mark of 6.93 meters, with teammate Collin Stauffer with a 6.37 mark.

Finally, in the pole vault, three athletes (Elijah DangrowJack Georgeston and Kyle Grimm) all of PS-Behrend, have a 4.55 meter mark.

The throws (Javelin, Hammer, Discus, Shot Put)
In the hammer, the top seed is Paul Kemsley of Alfred State with a mark of 45.76 meters, with Matthew Michael of PS-Behrend with a 42.42.

In the javelin, Colby Tarr of PS-Behrend has a 44.55, with John Chesson of Keystone with a 44.15 meter seed.

The discus is led by Paul Kemsley from Alfred State with a 49.63, followed by a 43.12 meter mark from John Chesson.

Finally, in the shot put, Matthew Michael has a top mark of 14.61 meters with Mason Nolan from PS-Behrend with a 13.86.  

A quick look on the women’s side:
The sprints (100, 200, 400, 100 HH, 400H)
In the 100, PS-Behrend’s Gabriella Loeffler has a top seed of 12.89, while PS-Behrend’s Haley Yenchik has a time of 13.14. Notre Dame’s Taylor Epps has a 13.20.

In the 200, Loeffler has a top time of 26.17, followed by Epps at 27.22. Yenchik is third with a 27.51.

In the 400, Loeffler again holds the top time of a 60.67, while teammate Jenna Shelton has a 1:01.21. Franciscan’s Ashlin LaFond has a 1:03.92.

In the hurdle events, PS-Behrend’s Maria Czerwinski has a time of 18.61, with Franciscan’s Brigid Kelly clocking a 18.88 in the high hurdles. In the 400 hurdles, the top time belongs to Briana Gibson of Notre Dame with a time of 1:14.42, followed by PS-Behrend’s Hanna Drozynski and Maria Czerwinski with times of 1:18.98 and 1:18.99, respectively.

The distance (800, 1500, 5K, 10K, 3000 steeple)
The top time in the 800 belongs to Jenna Shelton from PS-Behrend who has a 2:21.40, while LaFond has a 2:27.43. Courtney Sargent from PS-Behrend has a 2:27.85.

In the 1500, Shelton has the top time of 4:48.12, with Sargent having a 4:55.64.

In the 5k, PS-Behrend’s Riley Crissman has a 18:27.11, while teammate Savanna Carr has a 18:53.19.

In the 10k, PS-Behrend’s Erica Koenig has a time of 43:29.99.

Finally, the 3k Steeple, the top time belongs to Sargent with a time of 11:34.71 with Franciscan’s Allison Bryant with a time of 11:50.20.

The jumps (Long, Triple, High, Pole Vault)
In the high jump, Alfred State’s Emily Brigman has a seed of 1.53 meters, followed by PS-Behrend’s Caroline Upham with a 1.45 meter seed.

In the triple, Haley Yenchik (PS-Behrend) along with Alexandra Myers and Megan Oyer (Keystone) will battle for the top spot.

In the long, the top seed is Yenchik with a 5.00 meters, followed by Myers with a 4.53 meters.

Finally, in the pole vault, Yenchik has a 3.60 meter mark with PS-Behrend’s Brianna Keith at a 2.68 meters.

The throws (Javelin, Hammer, Discus, Shot Put)
PS-Behrend’s Emily Mischen has a mark of 11.11 meters in the shot put, followed by Keystone’s Rachel Drumheiser with a mark of 9.72 meters.

In the discus, the top mark belongs to Rachel Drumheiser at 28.19 meters, with Kelly having a 27.88 meters.

In the hammer, Drumheiser has the top seed with a 38.73 followed by Mischen with a 36.75.

Finally, in the javelin, Alfred State’s Julia Yanarella has a seed mark of 28.96 meters while Franciscan’s Rachel Solomon has a 28.25 meters.
 
PS-Behrend captures CSAC Track and Field Championship
 

PS-BEHREND CAPTURES CSAC TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

LA PLUME, Pa. – Penn State-Behrend again captured both men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships on Sunday at the conclusion of the 2019 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championship held at Keystone.

The Lions won the women’s competition with a score of 290.50 points, with host Keystone second with a total score of 92.50. Franciscan was third with a score of 82 points.

On the men’s side, PS-Behrend had 269 points with Alfred State in second place with a score of 148 and Franciscan in third with a score of 106.

In the women’s competition, Courtney Sargent and Haley Yenchik, both from PS-Behrend, won Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Year honors respectively.

Sargent, a senior, won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a CSAC record time of 11:35.41, while finishing second in the 800 meter run (2:22.73), second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:54.39, and fourth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.46.

Yenchik, also a senior, captured the pole vault (3.50m) and the triple jump (9.95m) on Saturday. On Sunday, she won the long jump with a leap of 5.38 meters.

For the men, freshman Jacob Wadsworth from Alfred State was named as the Men’s Track Athlete of the Year. He won the 400 meters with a time of 58.70, and the long jump with a leap of 6.66 meters. He was second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.38 and the high jump at 1.86 meters. He also finished third in the 100 with a time of 11.18 and in the 200 with a time of 22.64.

Sophomore teammate Paul Kemsley was named as Field Athlete of the Year after winning the discus throw with a toss of 43.18 meters, while finishing second in the shot put at 14.28 meters. On Saturday, he was second in the hammer at 42.55 meters.

2019 All-CSAC TeamCSAC Announces Track and Field End of Year Awards

CSAC ANNOUNCES TRACK AND FIELD END OF YEAR AWARDS


ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its 2019 Track and Field End of Year Award winners. Awards include All-CSAC (First-Team, Second-Team and Honorable Mention) as well as Coach of the Year in both men's and women's track and field and 3-D Award.

Athletes earned All-CSAC based on their finish at the 2019 CSAC Track and Field Championship, May 4-5 at Keystone College.

Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year honors went to Steve Paternostro of Alfred State. In his first year as coach, he led the Pioneers to a second-place finish at the championships with a totat of 148 points. 

Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year honors went to Frank Passetti of Keystone. In his first year as coach , the Giants finished second in the conference with 92.5 points. 

The 3-D Award winner on both sides as Keystone. Implemented for the 2011-12 academic year, the Colonial States Athletic Conference 3D Award replaced the CSAC Team Sportsmanship Award. The 3D Award recognizes the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate." The 3D Award was conceived and developed by the CSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This is the first time the Giants have won the award in track and field.
