Penn State Behrend picked first in CSAC Men's Track and Field Coaches' Poll

PENN STATE BEHREND PICKED FIRST IN CSAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD COACHES' POLL

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men’s and women’s track and field teams were picked first on both sides of the 2021 CSAC Track and Field Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

On the men’s side, the Lions received nine points and all three first-place votes. Alfred State was second with six points, while Keystone was third with three points.

Penn State Behrend has captured all four CSAC championships since joining the conference as an associate member during the 2015-16 academic year. The 2020 CSAC Championship was not contested due to COVID-19.

All teams will meet for the CSAC Championship on Saturday, May 8, at Keystone College.

Stehlik captured the 200m at the Alfred State Early Invitational with a time of 22.60, and was third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.22. He was also part of the winning 4x1 relay team with a time of 43.34.

Viruet tossed a 50.72 meters in the javelin to win the event at the Keystone Duals

Coleman-Reeves had a strong performance at the North of 90 Meet last week, as he finished first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.10, and finished first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.44.

Viruet placed third at in the javelin as Moravian's Coach P Open with a toss of 46.80 meters.

Stello posted three second place finishes at Behrend's home invitational. He was second in the 100 (11.12), 200 (22.39) and was part of the second place 4x1 relay team (43.39). 

Braeden Smith / Sr / Penn State Behrend / Erie, Pa / Seneca HS (Field)
Smith won the high jump, clearing a height of 2.06 meters, the sixth best mark in Division III this year.

Penn State Behrend captures 2021 CSAC Men's Track and Field Championship

PENN STATE BEHREND CAPTURES 2021 CSAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

LA PLUME, Pa. - Penn State Behrend captured the 2021 CSAC Men's Track and Field Championship on Saturday, hosted by Keystone College. 

The Lions got 340 points, followed by Alfred State with 197 and Keystone with 54. 

Penn State Behrend's Phoenix Myers (Erie, PA/Seneca) won three events for the Lions, claiming the CSAC Track Athlete of the Year award, while whe CSAC Field Athlete of the Year was Matt Michael (Erie, PA/Iroquois) for his performance in the throwing events

Myers competed in three events, winning all three. He won the 3000m steeplechase (9:53.19), the 1500m run (4:07.60), and the 5000m run (15:47.10)

Michael threw the shot put, discus, hammer throw, and javelin. He took home the gold in the shot put throwing 14.80m



CSAC Announces Track and Field End of Year Awards
 

CSAC ANNOUNCES TRACK AND FIELD END OF YEAR AWARDS

ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced its 2021 Track and Field End of Year Award winners. Awards include All-CSAC (First-Team, Second-Team and Honorable Mention) as well as Coach of the Year in both men's and women's track and field and 3-D Award.

Athletes earned All-CSAC based on their finish at the 2021 CSAC Track and Field Championship, May 8 at Keystone College.

Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year honors went to Greg Cooper of Penn State Behrend. He led the Lions to their fifth straight CSAC title as they finished first at the CSAC Championships with a score of 340 points. 

Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year honors went to Alec Duncan of Cedar Crest. In the Falcons first appearance at the CSAC Championship, they finished with third a score of 98 points. 

The 3-D Award winner on the women's side was Cedar Crest, while Penn State Behrend won the award on the men's side. Implemented for the 2011-12 academic year, the Colonial States Athletic Conference 3D Award replaced the CSAC Team Sportsmanship Award. The 3D Award recognizes the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate." The 3D Award was conceived and developed by the CSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
