CSAC ANNOUNCES ADDITION OF MEN'S AND WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD TO SPORT SPONSORSHIP FOR 2015-16

ASTON, Pa.--The Colonial States Athletic Conference Board of Directors has approved the addition of men's and women's outdoor track and field as the conference's 16th and 17th sports, respectively.

Five CSAC schools currently sponsor men's and women's outdoor track and field, including Gwynedd Mercy University, Immaculata University, Keystone College, Marywood University and Neumann University. The CSAC has accepted two other institutions - Penn State University Behrend and Franciscan University from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference - as associate members in the sports of men's and women's outdoor track and field.

"The CSAC Board of Directors and I are thrilled to be able to provide a championship experience for our track and field student-athletes," said Carmen Twillie Ambar, President of Cedar Crest College and chair of the CSAC Board of Directors. "We are excited to welcome Penn State Behrend and Franciscan University to the CSAC and look forward to a competitive inaugural championship in Spring 2016."

For the past few seasons, the five CSAC institutions sponsoring track and field have gathered to host a "CSAC Invitational" at the conclusion of the spring season. This past year, Gwynedd Mercy edged Keystone by five points for the top spot in the women's team standings while Keystone claimed top honors in the men's team standings by a 49-point margin over the Griffins.

"It is always rewarding for the conference to expand our competitive opportunities," said Jennifer Dubow, commissioner of the CSAC. "We are pleased to be able to acknowledge our dedicated track and field student-athletes with a conference championship and additional opportunities for end-of-season recognition. The CSAC is also proud to partner with Penn State Behrend and Franciscan to allow for a viable and spirited championship in 2016 and beyond."

Men's and women's outdoor track and field are the first new sports added to the CSAC's sport sponsorship offerings since men's lacrosse was added in 1999.

The CSAC will host the inaugural men's and women's outdoor track and field championship on Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8, 2016 at Gwynedd Mercy University.
