SUNY Cobleskill Wins 2012 NEAC Men’s Cross Country Championships; All-Conference Selections Announced

ABINGTON, Pa. – The SUNY Cobleskill men’s cross country team captured its second straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) cross country championship, which was hosted by Penn State Abington at Lorimer Park in Huntingdon Valley, Pa., on Saturday.  It is the fourth title in five years for the Fighting Tigers.   

SUNY Cobleskill won the event with a team score of 52 points, edging out Morrisville State College by two points as the Mustangs finished with a team score of 54.  SUNY Institute of Technology came in third with 70 points, while Penn State Berks finished in fourth with 112 points and Wells took fifth place with 156 points.  Rounding out the rest of the 11-team field was: Penn State Abington (6th, 164 points); Penn State Harrisburg (7th, 169 points); Gallaudet University (8th, 196 points); Keuka College (9th, 216 points); Lancaster Bible College (10th, 251 points); and Cazenovia (11th, Did not have enough runners to qualify for a team finish).

Host Penn State Abington swept the individual awards, as freshman Alexander Kane (Doylestown, Pa.) was the first runner to cross the finish line of the 8-kilometer course at 29:05 en route to being named both the NEAC Runner of the Year and NEAC Rookie of the Year.  Kane won three NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week awards on the season.

Penn State Abington’s Jose Rodriguez was selected by his peers as the NEAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Nittany Lions to a pair of first-place finishes and five top-five finishes overall on the season.
