GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2012 Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference selections, with first, second and third team honors being awarded by position to a total of 36 student-athletes, as selected by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also announced its individual men’s lacrosse award winners. Medaille College sophomore attacker Brock Levick (Newmarket, Ontario, Canada) was selected as the Player of the Year after a record-breaking season for the Mavericks. Levick, who led the nation in scoring as a freshman one year ago, totaled a conference-best 52 goals in 13 games this season, which gave him a school-record 115 career goals after just two seasons of play for Medaille. The prolific scorer currently leads the nation in goals per game at 4.00 and also leads the NEAC in points with 66, as he added 16 assists on the year as well. Levick has won the last two NEAC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week awards, as well as back-to-back selections as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Mid-Atlantic Offensive Player of the Week.
Morrisville State College senior Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year after a phenomenal season between the pipes for the Mustangs. Hinchey was the backbone of a defensive unit that helped the Mustangs win the NEAC regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 conference record. Starting all 13 Mustang contests in goal, Hinchey made 133 saves while registering a .530 save percentage and a 9.53 goals-against average in 742 minutes of action to post a 10-3 overall record. He also had 28 groundballs and four caused turnovers on the season while taking home one NEAC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week honor on the year.
The conference’ s inaugural Rookie of the Year award went to Morrisville State College’s Jack Martocello (Miller Place, N.Y.). The freshman attacker registered 31 points on 26 goals and five assists while also collecting 27 ground balls and causing four turnovers during his rookie campaign. He tallied four goals in a game three different times on the year and also had one game-winning score, while his 19 goals in conference play were tenth-most in the NEAC.
Cazenovia College’s Kevin Johnson was selected by his peers as the Coach of the Year. Johnson led the Wildcats to a 6-2 conference record, helping them secure the third seed in this weekend’s NEAC Championship tournament. The team finished the regular season 7-7 overall, giving Johnson a three-win improvement from last year’s 4-9 finish during his first year at the helm.
