GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2013 Women’s
Soccer All-Conference selections, with first, second and third team
honors being awarded by position to a total of 33 student-athletes,
as selected by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also announced its individual women’s soccer
award winners, which were also voted on by the conference
coaches. After a dominant season, Penn State Berks freshman
Dana Sarcinello (Downingtown,
Pa.) was selected as both the NEAC Player of the Year and
the Rookie of Year. The versatile center midfielder leads the
NEAC in both goals (18) and points (44) while being second in
assists (8), which helped her also garner a NEAC All-Conference
First Team selection. Sarcinello also earned a NEAC Offensive
Player of the Week selection during the season, while her overall
play on the year helped the Nittany Lions clinch their second
straight NEAC regular season championship.
Penn State Abington senior Alyssa Kaye (Levittown,
Pa.) was chosen as the NEAC Goalkeeper of the Year after a
fantastic season guarding the net for the Nittany Lions, which also
landed her a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Kaye went
12-2-1 in goal for Abington and recorded a conference-most eight
shutouts this season, while also leading the NEAC in goals against
(10), goals-against average (0.66) and save percentage
(.890). She also made 81 saves on the year, including a
career-most 16 stops during a 1-1 double overtime draw with Cabrini
College last Wednesday. The stellar play of Kaye, who also
earned a NEAC Defensive Player of the Week selection earlier this
season, helped lead Abington to the second seed in the upcoming
NEAC Championship Tournament with a 10-1 conference record.
The NEAC Coach of the Year honor went to Penn State Berks’
Adrian Munteanu for the second straight time after
another terrific season for the Nittany Lions. Munteanu
coached Berks to a program-most 14 wins this season, including a
perfect 11-0 mark in conference play to win a second straight NEAC
regular season championship and the right to host the final four
portion of the conference tournament next weekend. He also
led the Nittany Lions to a 3-3-1 mark against nonconference
opponents, with those teams combining for an overall record of
66-42-9 this season and two of those squads being regionally
ranked.
Below are the NEAC All-Conference First Team, Second Team and
Third Team selections:
