Morrisville State Captures NEAC Men’s Soccer Championship with 2-0 Win over Lancaster Bible College
MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – For the second time
in three years, the Morrisville State College Mustangs captured the
North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Men’s Soccer
Championship, as they defeated Lancaster Bible College 2-0 in the
finals Sunday.
The Mustangs, who were the host and top seed of the five-team
tournament, will now earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III
Tournament. They will find out their opponent on Monday at
1:30 pm during the NCAA’s live selection show, which can be
viewed here.
Freshman Jamieson McKoy (Brox, N.Y.) was named
the Tournament MVP after netting the game-winning goal in both
playoff victories for the Mustangs.
Midway through the opening period, McKoy put the Mustangs on the
board in the 28th minute with a one-touch score inside the right
post off a cross field feed from junior defender Brian
Culkin (West Islip, N.Y.).
Maintaining the 1-0 lead over Lancaster Bible, Morrisville State
had several chances to increase the margin, but was unable to break
through until the 64th minute when senior Jacob Chase
(Cooperstown, N.Y.) posted the second Mustang score of the
afternoon.
Chase collected the ball off the foot of Charger goalkeeper
Andrew Kofstad (Presque Isle, Maine), who made the
initial kick save but deflected it to just inside the top of the
box, where Chase was waiting and rifled the shot into the back of
the net for the score.
Kofstad had eight saves in the loss for Lancaster, as
Morrisville State outshot the visitors 27-9 on the day.
Junior Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) posted his
14th win of the season along with his sixth shutout victory of
2014, as he turned away three on the day to secure the victory.
