NEAC Announces 2016 Women’s Soccer All-Conference Selections and Individual Award Winners
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2016 Women’s Soccer All-Conference selections, with first, second and third team honors being awarded by position to a total of 33 student-athletes, as selected by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also announced its women’s soccer individual award winners, as also selected by the conference coaches.
Penn State Berks took home three of the four honors, which included senior Dana Sarcinello (Downingtown, Pa.) garnering her fourth straight NEAC Player of the Year award after another outstanding season for the Nittany Lions. The midfielder tallied 14 goals and dished out six assists for 34 points while starting in 18 Nittany Lion contests this season. Sarcinello also posted a .576 shots-on-goal percentage while averaging 4.72 shots per game on the year, in addition to being a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kicks as she earned a spot on the NEAC All-Conference First Team. Sarcinello’s ability to quickly transition the ball from midfield into the offensive third of the field was key to setting up the potent Nittany Lion offense that led all NEAC squads in goals scored.
Penn State Berks senior Brennan Moyer (Wyomissing, Pa.) was selected as the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year following a tremendous season for the Nittany Lions. Starting in all 19 Nittany Lion contests, Moyer was the key piece to a Berks defense that surrendered only 11 goals and sports a goals-against average of 0.57. Moyer’s ability to limit opposing offenses from creating scoring chances also led to a conference-most 10 shutouts on the year for Berks. Moyer was also called upon for free kicks and corner kicks throughout the season, with her accuracy helping her record 19 points on a NEAC-best nine assists to go along with five goals. A NEAC Defensive Player of the Week honoree this season, Moyer also landed on the NEAC All-Conference First Team.
Penn State Berks head coach Adrian Munteanu also took home NEAC Coach of the Year honors following another fantastic season at the helm for the Nittany Lions. Munteanu led his squad to the conference’s regular season championship behind a perfect 13-0 record as they now enter the NEAC Tournament as the top seed and three-time defending champions. His squad was dominant on both sides of the field, leading the NEAC in goals (103), assists (63), shots (471), shots on goal (287) and shutouts (10) en route to a 15-3-1 overall record.
The remaining individual award went to Keuka College freshman Emily McGuigan (Lusby, Md.), as she was dubbed the NEAC Rookie of the Year. The forward had a phenomenal debut season, posting NEAC-leading totals of 19 goals and 45 points for the Wolves, helping her also land in the top 25 nationally in those categories. Five of those goals were also game winners to go with six assists as she started in all 18 Keuka contests. McGuigan also earned both the NEAC Offensive Player of the Week and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Player of the Week honor this season en route to landing on the NEAC All-Conference First Team.
