NEAC Announces Field Hockey All-Conference Team, Morrisville State College Sweeps Individual Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2017 Field Hockey All-Conference Team, which honors the top 10 field players and one goalkeeper as determined by the conference coaches. Four individual award-winners were also recognized, with the NEAC regular season champion Morrisville State College sweeping all four awards.

Morrisville State College’s Elizabeth Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) has been named the NEAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Mustangs’ offense in 2017. The senior forward scored a team-best 11 goals for 22 points on the season and she led the NEAC with 12 points in conference play. Leva scored at least once in nine of her 15 games and recorded a single-game high three goals, including the game-winner, against Wells College. Leva was also honored on the NEAC All-Conference Team.

Nicole Greiner (Eden, N.Y.) from Morrisville State College was selected as the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year as the anchor of a back line that allowed just six goals in league games. The senior defender led her squad to a conference-best 1.50 goals-against average and a .667 save percentage against NEAC opponents. Greiner also collected three defensive saves in non-conference action and her ability to transition the ball from the defensive end to the midfield proved vital in the success of the Mustangs thus far.

Morrisville State College midfielder Haley Evarts (Irondequoit, N.Y.) received NEAC Rookie of the Year honors with three goals and four assists on the year. Her 10 points rank third on the Mustangs and she is tied for the league-lead with three assists in conference games. Evarts also contributed on the defensive end of the field, registering one defensive save in a non-conference game against Oneonta. Evarts, who is also an All-Conference selection, was recognized earlier in the season as a NEAC Offensive Player of the Week after a five-point week.

Morrisville State College head coach Allison Beardsley has been named NEAC Coach of the Year after leading the Mustangs to their first NEAC Regular Season Title. Beardsley guided the Mustangs to a perfect 4-0 record against conference opponents with a league-leading defense that allowed only six goals in four games. With Beardsley at the helm, the Mustangs’ offense scored a NEAC-best 14 goals and averaged 3.5 goals per game in conference action. This is the first NEAC Coach of the Year honor for Beardsley.
