SUNY Poly Wins Fifth-Straight NEAC Men's Cross Country Championship

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men’s cross country team earned 40 points at the 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship to win its fifth-straight conference title at the event hosted by Morrisville State College on Saturday.

Four SUNY Poly runners earned a top-ten finish with freshman Noah Valvo (Town of Wright, N.Y.) leading the Wildcats with a third-place finish. As the top finisher among first-year runners, Valvo was also named NEAC Rookie of the Year after completing the 8K race in 28:58.5. Ian Kurzrock (Woodbourne, N.Y.) and Jonathon Miller (Oneonta, N.Y.) joined Valvo on the All-Conference First Team after placing fifth and seventh, respectively.

Lancaster Bible’s Tanner Krob (Lisbon, Iowa) earned the individual crown and NEAC Runner of the Year accolades with a final time of 28:13.4.  Krob, who has two NEAC weekly awards to his name, became the first runner in Lancaster Bible history to win the men’s cross country championship. SUNY Poly head coach Bill Tylutki was named the NEAC Coach of the Year, receiving recognition from his peers for the fifth-straight season.

Penn College earned its highest finish yet at the NEAC Championship, placing second with 66 total points. SUNY Cobleskill finished third with 69 points, while Lancaster Bible came in fourth with 74 points. Penn State Berks completed the top five with 133 points.

NEAC All-Conference First, Second and Third Team selections were determined by the individual finish times at the championship race.  The top 21 runners receive All-Conference honors with seven members placed on each team in the order they completed the race.
