LATHAM, N.Y - The 2021 United East Volleyball Championship field is set and for the first time since 2017, the tournament will go through Reading, Pa. as Penn State Berks claimed the top seed. Find all of the championship seedings here:
#1 - Penn State Berks
#2 - Gallaudet University
#3 - Penn State Harrisburg
#4 - SUNY Morrisville
The semifinals will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday as #2 Gallaudet squares off against #4 Harrisburg. Following that semifinal will be the the contest between top-seeded Berks and #4 Morrisville
The winner of these two matchups will then play at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the title of United East Champion and the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship.
Penn State Berks clinched their top spot with a spotless conference record (8-0) while going 17-14 overall. The Nittany Lions ride a seven-game win streak going into the postseason, helped out by Libero Marie Durkota who was tabbed the Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week four times this year.
Gallaudet’s strong play helped earn the Bison the second seed, posting a conference record of 7-1 and an overall record of 17-11. It's been nothing but offense for the Washington D.C. team as their hitting percentage of .198 on the year leads the United East.
Harrisburg laid claim to the third seed this year as the team boasted a conference record of 6-2 on the year (19-9 overall). The Lions pride themselves on not allowing the other team to lay down a kill as they’ve held their opponents to a league-leading .114 hitting percentage.
Earning the fourth seed by way of tie-breaker, the winner of the last conference championship, SUNY Morrisville, took the fourth seed with a United East record of 4-4 (16-11 overall). Emily Huppee has played a large role in the Mustang offense this season as her hitting percentage of .333 is nearly .063 better than any other player in the conference.
