LATHAM, N.Y. - Part two of the United East’s Athletes of the Week features two tennis players from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Tyler Vanvalkenburg has been tabbed the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while Sydney Anderson has been deemed the Player of the Week on the women’s side.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Tyler VanValkenburg

St. Mary’s College (Md.)  |  Junior 

Tyler VanValkenburg helped lead the Seahawks to a 2-1 start this spring as VanValkenburg posted a 3-0 record at No. 2 doubles and a 2-1 mark at No. 4 singles. He dropped only one game in his two singles wins, winning 6-1, 6-0 vs. Marymount and 6-0, 6-0 vs. Hood. VanValkenburg and his partner, Sam Sheats, lost just nine games over three doubles victories, winning 8-3 vs. Marymount, 8-0 vs. Hood, and 8-6 at Goucher.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

Sydney Anderson

St. Mary’s College (Md.)  |  Junior

Sydney Anderson has helped the Seahawks to a 2-1 start this spring - the team's first two wins of the 2021-22 season. Anderson went 3-0 in singles action with two wins at No. 4 and one at No. 5. She also posted a 2-1 mark in doubles play with one win at No. 2 and one at No. 3. Anderson picked up three straight-set victories, winning 6-0, 6-2 vs. Marymount, 6-1, 6-0 vs. Hood, and 6-4, 6-2 at Goucher. In doubles play, she won 8-6 at No. 3 with Giselle Harris and 8-2 at No. 2 with Amber Manspeaker.
