Men's Soccer Division Finals are Set after Monday Night Clashes

LATHAM, N.Y. - The divisional finals are set after Monday’s Semifinal Round games in the 2023 United East Men’s Soccer Championships.

Volt Division - #4 St. Mary’s def. #1 Penn State Abington, 2-0 - Box Score
St. Mary’s went on the road at #1 Penn State Abington this afternoon and pulled the upset, defeating the Nittany Lions by a score of 2-0.  The Seahawks got goals from Abdoul Anounkou in the 67th minute and Zack Glime (84th minute) while outshooting the hosts 16-8 (9-4 SOG) on the day.  Abington’s goalkeeper, Matt Sheldon, stood out while making 7 saves on 16 total shots faced.  St. Mary’s moves on to the Volt Division championship game on Wednesday against Penn State Harrisburg, who defeated Lancaster Bible 3-2.

Daniel Fombu had a brace within the first 10 minutes (1st minute; 10th minute) for the Nittany Lions as Harrisburg ran out to a quick 2-0 lead.  Devyn Kintzer brought Lancaster Bible back within one with a strike in the 50th minute, but Cole Isaacs extended Harrisburg’s lead to 3-1 within a minute (51st minute).  Kintzer added his second in the 62nd minute to bring the score to 3-2.  The large crowd was on edge for the final 30 minutes but Harrisburg held on to move to the Volt Division Championship game against St. Mary’s on Wednesday.
 
Skye Division - #3 St. Elizabeth University def. #2 Cairn University, 2-2 (4-3 PK) - Box Score
St. Elizabeth University advanced to Wednesday night’s Skye Division Championship match with a 2-2 (4-3 PK) victory in penalty kicks.  Sebastian Londono got onto the board first with a strike in the 10th minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead that was held late into the 2nd half.  Cairn’s Alijah Miller tied the score in the 76th minute and Jesse Brittain gave the Highlanders the lead 5 minutes later in the 81st to go up 2-1.  But Conor Morrin equalized the score with just 12 seconds to play to send the match to overtime.  After two OT periods, penalty kicks were required to decide who moved on and the Eagles buried all four to advance and face Rosemont on Wednesday evening.
 
Skye Division - #1 Rosemont College def. #5 Keystone College, 1-0- Box Score
Aiden Anderson tallied the only goal of the night in the 27th minute as the Ravens moved on with a 1-0 victory over Keystone on Monday evening in Rosemont.  The Ravens outshot the Giants 20-6 (10-5 SOG) but Hector Camaja, Jr. made 9 saves to keep the Giants in play throughout the evening.  With the win, Rosemont advances to host the Skye Division Championship match on Wednesday evening against St. Elizabeth.
