United East Announces 2023 Field Hockey - All-Conference Teams and Major Award Winners

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The United East Conference is proud to announce the 2023 Field Hockey All-Conference Teams.  Each All-Conference Teams are made up of twelve student-athletes comprising three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalkeeper, and two at-large selections.  Four major awards have been handed out including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

All four institutions that sponsored Field Hockey in 2023 are represented in this year’s All-Conference teams.  Wilson College led the way with nine individuals on the All-Conference teams with four on the First Team and five on the Second Team.  Keystone College had seven individuals earn All-Conference nods including the Player, and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, as well as the Coach of the Year.  Lancaster Bible College and Cedar Crest College each had four members of the All-Conference teams, respectively with Cedar Crest College claiming the Rookie of the Year.

Keystone College midfielder Maria Tomada (Sr. / Buenos Aires, Argentina) has been named the 2023 United East Player of the Year after leading the Giants to an unbeaten conference season, and a regular season championship.  After a First Team honor in 2022, and a Second Team honor in 2021, Tomada continued the trajectory being named the United East Player of the Year in 2023.  This season, the senior led the league in Goals (15), Points (40), Shots (92), Shots per Game (5.41), Shots on Goal (52), Shots on Goal per Game (3.06) and finished 2nd in Total Assists (10).  Nationally, Tomada finished the season ranked 17th in Assists per Game, 20th in Goals per Game (1.00), and 13th in Points per Game (2.62).  Tomada was named United East Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 26th. 
 
Angelina Morley (Sr. / Deposit, N.Y) capped an impressive senior season for Keystone College by being named the 2023 United East Defensive Player of the Year.  The midfield/defender led the Giants to an unbeaten conference season and a regular season championship in 2023 after a 2022 season which saw Morley be named First Team All-Conference, CSAC Defensive Player of the Year, and NFHCA All-Region Second Team.  Morley led the United East in Defensive Saves with 10; a figure more than double anyone else in the league.  Nationally, Morley finished  9th in all of NCAA Division III Field Hockey with those 10 Defensive Saves.  Additionally, Morley finished 3rd in the United East with 5 Assists on the season.
 
Cedar Crest College goalkeeper Kadee Schrader (FY / Northampton, Pa.) had a strong debut season enroute to being named the 2023 United East Rookie of the Year.  This season, Schrader led the Falcons to the United East championship game and a number-2 seed in the playoffs.  The first-year was the league’s best goalkeeper compiling 137 Saves in 19 Games Played for a .792 Save Percentage.  In league games, Schrader averaged 8.50 Saves per Game for an .872 Save Percentage.  Nationally, Schrader finished the season 32nd in NCAA Division III Field Hockey for Save Percentage and 39th for Saves per Game.  Schrader was named United East Defensive Player of Week two separate times this season. 
 
Erin McGinley has been voted United East Coach of the Year after guiding Keystone to an 11-6 (3-0 United East) overall record and a United East championship in 2023; the program’s second overall.  The Giants increased their win total in 2023 while adding the first conference unbeaten season since 2019.  Additionally, seven players were awarded All-Conference honors including the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
