United East Athletes of the Week - November 27, 2023

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for November 27, 2023.  This includes Athletes of the Week for both the Skye and Volt Divisions in Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, November 20 through Sunday, November 26.  A total of 8 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. 

 


Women’s Basketball

Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division

Kylee Miller / Fr / Clarks Summit University / Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area HS

Despite going 0-2 on the week, Miller put up dominant numbers from the paint. The first year piled up 24 boards across the two-game stretch, 15 of which came on the defensive glass. Miller also worked as a shot blocker, disrupting five opponent attempts. Adding to her stat sheet, the Chambersburg, Pa. native also averaged 15 points, accumulating a double-double in the week opener against Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
 

Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division

Mojisola Shokeye / Jr / Rosemont College / Yonkers, N.Y. / Saunders Trades & Technical HS

Shokeye was instrumental in the Raven’s lone contest of the week, helping her squad win 60-43 over York (NY). The guard racked up 21 points including going 4-7 from beyond the arc. She also was able to distribute the ball as she dished out seven dimes along the way. A 12 rebound game gave Shokeye a double-double on the day and she also managed to pick up four steals.

Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division

Amirah Hackney / Fr / Penn State Abington / Philadelphia, Pa. / Neumann Goretti

In a 1-1 week for the Nittany Lions, Hackney averaged 17.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to go along with three blocks and two steals on the week.  Hackney highlighted the week with a 20-point (7-11 FG) performance setting a season-high in the team's victory against Clarks Summit. She followed that up with her second double-double of the season in the setback at Salisbury with 14 points and a season-high 12 rebounds.  Hackney has scored in double-figures in each of the seven games to start her collegiate career. 

Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division

Tramarie Mobray / So / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Glen Burnie, Md. / Glen Burnie

Tramarie Mobray tallied 15 points plus career-highs of eight rebounds and four assists in the Seahawks' 82-66 win over Goucher, their only game of the week. This marks her second weekly accolade from the conference this season, earning Defensive Player of the Week honors on November, 13, 2023.

 

 


Men’s Basketball

Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division

Derian Bradford / Sr / Cairn University / Landsdale, Pa. / Faith Christian Academy

Bradford scored a team-high 21 points against Manor College in Cairn's home opener on Monday night in addition to collecting his 1,000th career point on a floating jump shot in the closing seconds of first half play. 10 rebounds collected him his second double-double of the year along with 5 assists and a pair of blocked shots. 

Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division

Tye-Rell Monroe / Jr / Saint Elizabeth University / Rio Rancho, N.M. / Albany

Monroe piled up that statline as the Eagles narrowly took a loss to St. Joseph’s (L.I.), 63-62. The junior corralled five boards while blocking a pair of shots in the paint. He also registered a pair of steals to go along with five points scored.

Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division

Alex Podolski / Sr / Penn State Abington / Sparta N.J. / Sparta

In the team's lone game of the week, Podolski helped lead the Nittany Lions to a come-from-behind victory over Bryn Athyn College.  Podolski finished the game with 25 points and 10 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season. He shot 8-of-13 from the field and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. He also had three assists and a steal. Abington trailed by as many as 11 points at the 16:20 mark of the second half and won the game, 77-66.

Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division

Donyae Baylor-Carroll / Sr / Penn State Harrisburg / Harrisburg, Pa. /  Milton Hershey

Thanks to his play on both ends of the floor, Donyae Baylor-Carroll led Penn State Harrisburg (5-1) to a comeback victory in the team’s lone outing of the week. In a win over Messiah on Tuesday night, the senior netted a game-high 22 points, including 18 in the second half, on 50 percent shooting from the field to go along with a team-high four assists. The guard was also a menace on defense, swiping a game-high six steals.
