BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s soccer team made history as they topped Rosemont College, 2-2 (5-4 PKs), Saturday afternoon in the United East Crossover Championship. The title is not only the Seahawk’s first ever in men’s soccer, but it will also mark the first time in program history that the squad will play in the NCAA Championship.

St. Mary’s College will learn their opponent and where they are heading for the NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Selection Show which premiers on Monday at 2 p.m.

The Seahawks got off to a very early lead as the visiting squad scored just 5:17 into the match courtesy of Zack Glime who would be named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. Glime then doubled the Seahawk lead in the opening moments of the second half as he scored on a pass from Alex Ochman. The two goal lead only held for nearly 30 seconds as Rosmeont’s Clayton Crosse found the back of the net to half the deficit. Crosse then proceeded to even the game in the 71st minute as he scored on an assist from Nicholas Lachawiec.

In the first overtime period, St. Mary’s College put a pair of shots on net but both were turned aside. Neither team could find any offense in the second extra stanza and penalty kicks ensued. One missed Raven attempt in the third round was the difference maker as the other nine attempts went in.

Both keepers hit double-digit saves as St. Mary’s Matthew Kopsidas finished with 13 and Rosemont’s Gunner Hoffman with 11.
