United East Men's Basketball Set to Tip Off 2024-25 Season

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East is set to tip off the 2024-25 men's basketball season later this week.  Sixteen programs will compete for twelve postseason berths in the 2025 United East Men's Basketball Championships that begins on Wednesday, February 19, 2025..

Last season, the United East played in a division structure (Skye and Volt) as a response to the merger with the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) that was finalized on July 1, 2023.  This year, the divisions have been eliminated and the league will compete as a single entity.

All programs will play in an unbalanced schedule format, with each team playing eight others in a home-and-home format for a total of 16 conference games. The league schedules have been designed to ensure each program would play against an opponent twice across three years.

Any ties will be broken using the United East Tiebreaking Procedures and, once the 12 seeds are determined, the tournament will commence as a single-elimination tournament.  Tiebreakers and a tournament outline can be found at the 2025 United East Men's Basketball Championship homepage.

Read below for a preview of all sixteen teams.

  • Head coach Don Friday and Penn State Harrisburg are seeking continued success with an experienced group returning off a United East Championship and a Second-Round appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season. Senior forward Isaiah Eggleston returns after shooting 49% from the field and averaging 7.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Classmate Lance Douglas averaged 2.9 assists, 1.5 steals, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.7 points per game while junior guard Isaiah Millien averaged 6.6 points, 3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

The Lions open the season hosting their Tip-Off Classic where matchups with Franklin & Marshall (November 9) and John Carroll (November 10) loom.  Additional non-conference matchups include Swarthmore College (November 16), Muhlenberg College (November 19) and Bridgewater College (Va.) (December 14). United East play begins on November 26th with a trip to Keystone College.

Coach’s Outlook: I love the energy and connection our young group has displayed throughout this preseason process. When it comes to balancing life as a student-athlete, our upperclassmen have been exceptional with leading this group. As we enter the 2024-25 season, one thing that is crystal clear to me is that our group is unified and possesses a collective energy.” - Don Friday

  • Led by three senior guards in the backcourt, Saint Elizabeth University is looking for sustained success in 2024-25 after last season’s Skye Division championship and appearance in the United East title game. Tye-Rell Monroe was a First Team All-Conference selection after being ranked nationally in Field Goals Made (49th; 190) and Total Points Scored (58th; 515) while shooting 56% from the field and 40% from the three-point line in league play. Monroe also recorded a career-high 40-point game against Valley Forge on January 6, 2024.  Classmate Jonathan Ramos earned Second Team All-Conference after averaging 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal per game and shooting 49% from the field and 43% from three-point line in conference play. Senior Malamin Kaba will step into a bigger role after appearing in 27 games last season.

The Eagles have a Division 1 exhibition game with St. Peters University on November 20 and non-conference matchups with Rutgers-Newark (November 11, 2024) and crosstown rival FDU-Florham on November 23, 2024.  United East play begins on November 26 with Rosemont coming to New Jersey.

Coach’s Outlook: "After winning the United East Skye Division Championship last season, our team is hungrier than ever! With 11 returning players from last year's team, the standard has been extremely high this preseason as we prepare ourselves to earn an NCAA Tournament Bid. The coaches are excited as there has not been a glimpse of players taking a "victory lap" this season. Saint Elizabeth will not be satisfied until we are playing on the national stage.

Last year we really emphasized the defensive side of the ball, and it led to being a top 25 defense in the country. There will be more of that in 2024-25 as we look to maintain a ferocious defense while working on correcting offensive mistakes. I believe that this is the most talented and deepest team that Saint Elizabeth University has ever had, and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together!" - Head Coach James Adams

  • Christopher Harney begins his 20th season in the head chair of St. Mary’s (Md.) men’s basketball team looking to continue the winning ways and postseason runs; albeit with a younger team after graduating a heavy senior class.  Junior forward Jake Koverman returns after averaging 11.2 points and 6 rebounds per game and earned a Defensive Player of the Week award for January 29, 2024. James Lerner had 66 assists last season in his freshman year while averaging 6.6 points per game and shot 88% from the free throw line.  Sophomore Kyree Wing will step into a bigger role on the wing after tallying 35 steals and averaging 6.1 points and 3 rebounds per game in his debut season.

  • The 2023-24 season saw Wilson College win a Skye Division regular season championship, but graduations and transfers bring in almost an entirely new roster for first-year head coach Dexter Harris, who comes to Wilson from Division II Millersville University. Senior guard Gary Robertson returns to a revamped roster providing leadership and experience heading into 2024-25 and United East competition.  Robertson has averaged over 5 assists per game throughout his career while last season adding 9.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Coach’s Outlook: “Losing 10 guys including a 2-time first team all-league and last year's player of the year (Darryl Garib) is impossible to replace in a season. Returning Gary was huge, and from day 1 he's been an unbelievable leader and captain. We are going to heavily rely on him from a leadership standpoint for this year's team. This year's team is going to be the team that will have to set the precedent for Wilson Men's Basketball and establish our culture for the future. I'm confident this group will do that. We were able to bring in a few transfers and freshmen with talent. So far, this team has bonded, become very close and have played very hard in practice which is a great start to the year and for my first year as head coach. Practice has been pretty intense, and this group has done an exceptional job of embracing the coaching staff, the newcomers on the roster as well as style of play. I'm confident this team will continue to learn and embrace the new style of play, as well as continue pushing our culture forward.” - Dexter Harris

  • Returning two First Team All-Conference seniors and an experienced core, Penn College is looking to build upon their postseason experience from 2023-24 and take a step forward in head coach Geoff Hensley’s 7th season.  Senior Gavin Barrett earned a Third Team All-Region award from D3Hoops.com on top of First Team All-Conference honors after leading Division III in Assists (201) and Assists per Game (7.7) while averaging 16.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.  Classmate Livingston Cross also earned First Team All-Conference and led the Volt Division in rebounding at 10.5 per game and contributed 20.9 points per game. Sophomore forward Landon Reeder averaged 9.1 points and 4.5 rebounds on 49% shooting from the field during his first collegiate season.

The United East is very strong at the top of the conference and it's a tremendous challenge for teams to break through to be a part of that group. Our focus is continuous improvement and trying to get better day by day.” - Geoff Hensley

Coach’s Outlook:” Coming off the best season in program history with 17 wins, the Lions return 8 of their top 9 players from last season including all four all-conference players: Will Little, Jalen Parker, Jalen Jackson, and Jakir Hampton. In addition to the strong group of returners, Bryn Athyn added six transfers from Division II, Division III, and NJCAA levels and one returning player from 2021-2022 in Jayquan Williams who was second on the team in scoring at 15 PPG that season. The Lions have their toughest non-conference schedule and a conference schedule that includes seven playoff teams from last year's United East Playoffs. A talented and experienced group will be tested early and often.

"Last season was a great step in the right direction for our program despite the disappointing upset playoff semifinal loss. I am excited that we have brought a very experienced group that saw value in what we were building together. With the addition of the seven new players, it is as talented of a roster that we have had here. It will be imperative that we focus on developing trust and synergy within the group.
