Semifinals Set for United East Women's Volleyball

LATHAM, N.Y. - The semifinals are set after Saturday’s quarterfinal matches in the 2024 United East Women’s Volleyball Championships.

#1 Gallaudet University def. #8 Keystone College, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 28-26) - Box Score
Gallaudet advanced to the United East semifinals on Tuesday evening after a 3-0 victory over visiting Keystone College.  The host ran out to two quick set victories before Keystone found their footing and took control of set three.  The Giants were up 18-13 in the third before the hosts fought back to even it up at 19-19.  Each team traded points before Keystone had a serve for set point at 26-25.  An attack error from Kaliyah Brown was just off the line to bring the match to 26-26 as the hosts tied it up.  A kill by Citrine Lummer and an ace from Nicole Hicks allowed Gallaudet to win the set and claim the sweep.

Brielle Worley from Gallaudet led all attackers with 19 kills.  Lummer had 14 digs and 7 kills while Ella Gamble passed out 39 assists for the hosts.  Keystone was led by Adrianna Derrick’s 10 kills and Catie Woolf’s 17 digs.

#2 Lancaster Bible College def. #7 Penn State Abington, 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-18 ) - Box Score
Lancaster Bible College advanced to Tuesday evening’s semifinals after a 3-0 victory against Penn State Abington on Saturday morning.  The Chargers were led by Madison Reap’s 12 kills and four aces. Leah Sareyka had 11 kills and two aces.  Madison Reap had six digs and four aces while Riley Dodrer had four blocks.  Madeline Reed and Emma Shaefer combined for 17 and 14 assists, respectively, while Leah Helman led everyone with 16 digs in the morning.  Lancaster Bible had 11 aces as a team.

Penn State Abington was led by Alyssa Flickinger and Ellie Van Otten’s 5 kills, each, and Zayna Jamaladdin’s four kills.  McKinley Grimm led all with 18 assists and had 9 digs for the Nittany Lions.
 
#3 St. Mary’s College of Maryland def. #6 Notre Dame of Maryland University, 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-19) - Box Score

St. Mary’s (Md.) dropped the first set but came back to take a decisive 3-1 victory over the visiting Notre Dame (Md.) Gators.  Notre Dame (Md.) easily took set one and had a 20-15 lead in set two, but a couple of attack errors started a 10-5 rally to see the hosts even up the contest.  From there, an 8-2 run to end the third set and a 6-1 run to end set four saw the Seahawks run away with the Saturday night victory.

The Seahawks were led by Julia Bobrowski’s double-double of 14 kills and 14 digs, while Gracie Zartman had 11 kills and Maya Mauro had 10 kills.  Arielle Lubeck double-doubled with 20 assists and 14 digs while Elizabeth Childs just missed a double-double with 11 digs and 8 assists.  The Gators were led by Emma Mueller’s double-double of 10 kills and 18 assists, while Ciarra Bockstie contributed 11 kills.  Natalie Newton double-doubled with 18 assists and 15 digs.
 
#4 Penn State Harrisburg def. #5 Cairn University, 3-1 (17-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-20) - Box Score
Penn State Harrisburg dropped the first set at home but rallied to take the next three as the Lions advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal round with a 3-1 victory over visiting Cairn University.  Harrisburg was paced by Hannah DeGregory’s triple double (12 kills, 15 assists, 13 digs) with Emily Miller and Camryn Wettstone contributing nine kills each.  Mackenzy Miller handed out 25 assists and Julie Choe picked up 15 digs. 

Cairn’s Caroline Conrad had 14 kills, 3 aces, and an assist in the afternoon while Hendryl Peabody (12) and Georgianna Thorpe (10) each had double-digit kills.  Olivia Zepp had 36 assists to lead all participants.
 


Semifinal matches will take place on Tuesday evening, November 12 with the top remaining seeds hosting on campus.  Number 1 seed Gallaudet University hosts No. 4 Penn State Harrisburg while No. 2 seed Lancaster Bible College welcomes No. 3 seed St. Mary’s College of Maryland
