Men's Soccer 11/11/2024 3:00:00 PM St. Mary's (Md.) to Face Dickinson College in First Round of NCAA Men's Soccer Championshps INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s soccer team will be headed to the NCAA Championships as they will play Dickinson College in the opening round. The Seahawks will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia and play in a four-team bracket with the hosts, University of Lynchburg, Dickinson College, and Emory University. Find the full bracket here: 2024 NCAA DIVISION III MEN’S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP This is the second NCAA Tournament appearance, and second-straight season, that St. Mary’s (Md.) has earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Last season, the Seahawks won the 2023 United East Men’s Soccer Tournament as the 5-seed: winning four games in seven days to hoist the championship trophy. Ultimately, St. Mary’s (Md.) lost a tight 1-0 decision to John Carroll University in the first round of the NCAA Championships. This season, St. Mary’s (Md.) has gone undefeated in league play, running out to an 8-0 record in conference play, earning the number one seed, and home field advantage. During the United East Championships, the Seahawks defeated Penn State Brandywine (3-1), Penn State Harrisburg (1-1, 4-3 PK’s), and Penn State Abington (2-0). Offensively, St. Mary’s (Md.) is led by 2024 Tournament MVP, Alex Ochman, who is currently second in the league with 12 assists. Additionally, three Seahawks are in the top-15 in the league for Goals Scored with Lucas Evans netting nine goals and both Jack Nelson and Zach Blaum each netting seven goals. Defensively, Jack Nelson controls a defense that only allowed 1.00 goals a game in conference play. Dickinson and St. Mary’s (Md.) met earlier this season on September 8th with the visiting Red Devils pulling out a 3-0 victory. In the latest national poll, Dickinson is ranked #6 in the country but lost last week in the Centennial Conference semifinals to #15 Johns Hopkins University. The Red Devils are led by Saul Iwowo and Ethan Jarden’s 14 goals and 13 goals, respectively. Goalkeeper Aidan George has a 1.24 Goals Against Average in almost 1600 minutes in net this season. The University of Lynchburg is the host for this weekend’s games as the Hornets are ranked #24 in the latest poll after winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) regular season championship. Though the Hornets lost the ODAC title game, Lynchburg received an at-large bid and hosting privileges this weekend. Their opponent will be Emory University out of Atlanta, Georgia, the champions of the University Athletic Association (UAA). Emory defeated Lynchburg, 2-1, on September 6th.
