Men's Soccer Final Four is Set

LATHAM, N.Y. - The semifinals are set after Saturday’s Quarter Final Round games in the 2024 United East Men’s Soccer Championships.

#1 St. Mary’s College (Md.) def. #8 Penn State Brandywine, 3-1 - Box Score
St. Mary’s College of Maryland advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Penn State Brandywine. Jack Nelson opened the scoring for the Seahawks, finding the back of the net in the 11th minute. Nelson doubled the lead at 52:55, but Penn State Brandywine quickly answered with a goal by Christian Zavala in the 54th minute. St. Mary’s then pulled ahead further when Lucas Evans scored with an assist from Bryce Webster and Alex Ochman. St. Mary’s dominated the match with an 18-7 advantage in shots and a 9-2 lead in corner kicks. Despite Brandywine goalie Elijah DeBooth’s six saves, St. Mary’s pressure proved too much, while goalie Zack Reed secured the win with two saves of his own.
 
#2 Penn State Abington def. #10 Lancaster Bible College, 2-0 - Box Score
Penn State Abington netted two late goals in the second half and advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal round after a 2-0 victory over visiting Lancaster Bible College.  Ameer Yagoub converted on Sean Horvay’s assist to break the deadlock in the 61st minute.  A nervy 20 minutes followed, but Abington was able to seal the game with a Frankie Rafferty goal, assisted by Jayden Barragan, to give the hosts the 2-0 lead.   Abington had the advantage in shots, leading Lancaster Bible 11-5 (7-2 on goal), while Lancaster Bible’s goalkeeper Luke Macchione made five saves in the afternoon.
 
#3 Cairn University def. #6 Penn College, 2-0 - Box Score
Cairn University triumphed over Penn College to advance to the semifinal round, with a final score of 2-0. Cairn set the pace early on, as Matt Lungu netted the first goal just 2 minutes and 31 seconds into the game, assisted by Moses Beers. The Highlanders extended their lead in the second half with an unassisted goal from Jesse Brittain, securing the win. Cairn outshot Penn College 18-14. Both goalkeepers were active, with Cole Catherman of Penn College recording six saves and Cairn’s Xander Jakeway making four stops to preserve the shutout.
 
#4 Penn State Harrisburg def. #12 Wilson College, 5-1 - Box Score
Penn State Harrisburg defeated visiting Wilson College 5-1 on Saturday evening to advance to Tuesday’s semifinal round.  Colin O’Hara got the scoring started for Harrisburg in the 12th minute with an unassisted goal.  He was quickly followed by Kobe Harris, from Cole Isaacs, and Jaden Longdon one minute apart in the 29th and 30th minute to increase the lead to 3-0 at halftime.  O’Hara added his second in the afternoon in the 50th minute before Brian Mulholland got one back for the Phoenix in the 79th minute.  Alexander Benbatoul got a goal in the 87th minute to finish out the scoring for the day.
Harrisburg outshot the Phoenix 17-3 on the day and held the advantage in corner kicks at 12-1.  Wilson’s Logan Neves had 5 saves on the day.

 

Semifinal matches will take place on Tuesday, November 5 with the top remaining seeds hosting on campus.  Number 1 St. Mary’s (Md.) hosts No. 4 Penn State Harrisburg while No. 2 Penn State Abington hosts No. 3 Cairn University.
