St. Mary's College and Penn State Abington to Meet in Men's Soccer Final

LATHAM, N.Y. - The finals are set after Tuesday’s Semi Final Round games in the 2024 United East Men’s Soccer Championships.

#1 St. Mary’s College (Md.) def. #4 Penn State Harrisburg, 1-1 (2 OT) (4-3 PK) - Box Score
Alex Ochman converted the penalty kick in the fifth round to give St. Mary’s (Md.) the victory in Tuesday evening’s semifinal as the Seahawks defeated visiting Penn State Harrisburg 1-1 (4-3 PK).  After each team traded goals and misses through the first three rounds of penalties, Seahawk goalkeeper Zack Reed saved Colin O’Hara’s fourth round penalty to give St. Mary’s (Md.) the advantage.  Ricardo Bustamante’s fifth round conversion gave Harrisburg hope entering the final kick, but Ochman quickly took the shot and slotted it in the right corner to end the shootout 4-3.

Jaden Longdon gave Harrisburg the 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute off an assist from Colin O’Hara.  Zach Blaum evened the match in the 72nd minute for the home side to tie it up 1-1.  The final 20 minutes saw a flurry of action as both teams pushed for a winner in regulation.  Though each team hit the post and saw shots fly just over the crossbar or off frame, the game ended 1-1 and was sent to overtime.  Twenty more minutes of the same sent the match to penalty kicks.

Shots were 18-14 to Harrisburg, 5-4 on goal, while the Lions held the advantage in corners as well at 8-3.  Zack Reed made four saves in net for the Seahawks while Shayon Kashi made three saves for Harrisburg.

#2 Penn State Abington def. #3 Cairn University, 2-1 - Box Score
A flurry of early goals from both teams were all that was needed as Penn State Abington defended home turf and defeated Cairn University 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.  Eljo Agolli got the scoring started just 25 seconds into the match after a long ball over the top from Benell Saygarn let Agolli run in behind the back line and let the Lions take a 1-0 lead.  Three minutes later, Sean Horvay cleaned up a bouncing ball in the box off of the short corner into the far post to give the hosts a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the game.

Cairn capitalized on a turnover in the midfield as Brock Burres fought off a couple of defenders to chip the keeper from the top of the box and bring the Highlanders within a goal.  The game settled into a tight, physical affair with a combined 19 fouls and 8 yellow cards shown in the afternoon.  Though Abington outshot Cairn 13-7, shots on goal were 6-5 to the Lions.  Xander Jakeway from Cairn and Brendan Werner of Abington each made four saves on the afternoon
