Penn State Harrisburg Claims 2024 United East Women's Soccer Championship

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East crowned a women’s soccer champion on Saturday afternoon as Penn State Harrisburg defeated St. Mary’s College of Maryland on the campus of Penn State Harrisburg.  With the win, Penn State Harrisburg has earned the automatic qualifier to the upcoming NCAA Championship.

Penn State Harrisburg will learn their host location and future opponent during the NCAA Selection Show which premiers on Monday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.

#1 Penn State Harrisburg def. #3 St. Mary’s College of Maryland, 0-0 (2OT, 4-3 PK) - Box Score
Penn State Harrisburg and St. Mary’s College of Maryland played 120 minutes through regulation and two overtimes to a 0-0 draw, but Penn State Harrisburg prevailed 4-3 in penalty kicks to claim the 2024 United East Women’s Soccer Championship.  Mirroring the first meeting between these teams three weeks ago, that also ended in a 0-0 draw, quality chances were few and far between as two of the league’s best defenses kept each other contained all afternoon.

As they started penalties, Penn State Harrisburg made a defensive substitution, bringing in goalkeeper Alexis Valenta for the shootout.  Round one saw Harrisburg’s Diana Pon convert while Megan Stambaugh from St. Mary’s (Md.) hit the post.  Both teams converted in rounds two and three for a 3-2 advantage to Harrisburg, with Valenta converting a penalty in round three.  Kyleigh Bland of St. Mary’s (Md.) made a save to start off round four with Morgan Kresslein converting on the back half to even up the penalties at 3-3 headed to the decisive round five.  Brin Moore converted for Harrisburg before Valenta made a diving save to her left to deflect the shot around the post and give Harrisburg the championship.  Valenta was named Tournament MVP after her two saves and a goal during the penalty round.

Bland made three saves in net for the Seahawks while Sydney Mulka made one in the 120 minutes for the Lions.  Shots were 7-6 to Harrisburg with the Lions holding an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
