LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East crowned a men’s soccer champion on Saturday afternoon as St. Mary’s College of Maryland defeated Penn State Abington on the campus of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. With the win, St. Mary’s (Md.) has earned the automatic qualifier to the upcoming NCAA Championship.
St. Mary’s (Md.) will learn their host location and future opponent during the NCAA Selection Show which premiers on Monday, November 11th at 1:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland defended home turf on Saturday evening as the Seahawks defeated Penn State Abington 2-0 to earn the 2024 United East Men’s Soccer championship. Alex Ochman opened the scoring in the 38th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The second half was tight and physical with both teams pushing hard. St. Mary’s (Md.) were awarded a penalty kick with 17 minutes to go but Brendan Werner made a diving save to his right, pushing his left hand high in the air, to keep the score 1-0. Though Abington kept pushing, another penalty kick was awarded in the 82nd minute and Abdoul Anounkou converted for the Seahawks to finish the scoring in the evening.
St. Mary’s (Md.) goalkeeper Zack Reed made one save while Werner made 7 saves for the Nittany Lions. The Seahawks had 15 shots, 9 on goal, to Abington’s 10 shots, 1 on goal. Alex Ochman from St. Mary’s (Md.) was named Tournament MVP after 4 shots, with 3 on goal, and the game winning goal.
